Have you been experiencing bouts of hunger even after having your meals ? Frequent urination has become a norm for you or fatigue is your constant companion? It would be a good idea for you to get your Glycemic index checked. Glycemic index (GI) is basically a measure of glucose absorption by the body.
It measures the rise of blood sugar level in the body after consumption of carbohydrate rich food. The Index shows levels in relation to glucose whose Glycemic Index is 100. This record is critical for persons suffering or suspected to be suffering from diabetes.
Food items that convert in to sugar fast can make the insulin levels touch the roof. Again if you have low levels of blood sugar then you will always feel out of energy. Lets discuss the home remedies that will help you out with both high as well as low Glycemic index.
Oats are high in fibre and have a low Glycemic Index of 42. It is an ideal meal for persons who have their GI on the higher side. If you crave eating a high GI food item then couple it up with an oat meal.
Adding a spoon of butter will further help as fat content in food delays the quick conversion of carbohydrates in sugar. And since you are having a low amount of fat with oats, it is unlikely to raise the fats stored in the body.
Legumes and lentils are very rich in proteins and have Glycemic index of below 55. Persons suffering from High Glycemic index have a slow healing process. Proteins are building blocks of human tissues and therefore aids the process of tissue regeneration. Two bowls of lentils and sprouted legumes are enough to take care of your daily protein requirement while keeping the Glycemic index under control.
Consuming at least 2 glasses of water after meals will help flush out the excess unnecessary nutrients like sugar from the body. Drinking water is said to interfere with digestion however, for people who are suffering from high GI maintaining high level of hydration in the body is desirable.
Also, frequent urination makes you lose a lot of body water in case of high GI. Ideally you can also intake water half an hour before meal time, this will not interfere with the digestion and make you eat lesser than usual.
Papaya juice, cucumber juice and water melon juice are preferable in case of high blood sugar levels. Steer clear of any kind of processed juice and do not add sugar to the home made juices. Natural home made fruit juices have low Glycemic index. They also help in maintaining healthy hydration levels in the body. Eating raw fruits can also provide you with good amount of roughage.
Replace your evening snack with nuts. Nuts like Almonds, hazelnut, peanuts and walnuts are high on fibre and energy, and low on Glycemic index. They do not have accumulating properties and consumption of just a few of them can make you feel full. You can also include them in a salad and consume it before the meal.
This will ensure reasonable consumption of meals. These home remedies are the chosen best and also do not interfere with the medication that you might be on. There are no side effects of these remedies and make you an energetic and fresh looking individual!
