These remedies are without any kind of side effects and have proven to tackle the problem with positive results.

Home Remedies For Night Cramps

Drink Water Adequately

One of the main reasons for night cramps is dehydration. To prevent the occurrence of such cramps, you need to have plenty of water throughout the day. Drink at least 2 cups of water every hour to keep your  muscles hydrated so that they function normally and do not cramp while you are asleep.

Relax And Get Rid Of Stress

Muscle cramps at night is also caused due to extreme fatigue or stress throughout the day. Before going to bed, go for a warm shower or soak in your bath for at least 30 minutes. Do not forget to add Epsom salt in the water, as magnesium present in this salt helps to relax the muscles and prevents cramping.

Check Your Sleeping Position

If you tend to get leg cramps regularly check how you are keeping your toes while sleeping. Change your sleeping position and do not sleep keeping your toes pointed. Also, ensure that you are not tucking into the sheets tightly as this position bends the toe downwards and causes cramps.

Have Food Rich In Vitamin E

Vitamin E deficiency causes nocturnal leg cramps. Include foods rich in vitamin E in your everyday food  to improve blood flow and prevent cramping. Include plenty of green leafy vegetables, nuts, almonds, fish oils, broccoli and vegetables like squash and pumpkin in your diet which are rich in Vitamin E.

Heat Therapy

If your muscle cramp becomes unbearable and you need immediate relief as and when they occur,  the best option is to place a hot washcloth or an heated pad on your painful muscle. This will help in increasing the blood flow of the area and relax the affected tissue. Heat should be low and applied for just 20 minutes at a stretch or you will damage your tissues.

Massage For Relief

Mix a part of wintergreen oil with at least 4 parts of vegetable oil. Mix well and use it as a massage oil on your affected muscle whenever you feel the need. Wintergreen helps in stimulating the blood flow and reduces pain. If you have been regularly suffering from night cramps, you can massage the specific area of pain at least 3 times in a day. Hope the above home remedies help you to get rid of the problem of night cramping and you have a peaceful night sleep.
