Burp! Now that’s sign of a good meal you’ve enjoyed. Belching – also known as burping, ructus or eructation is the expulsion of air from the stomach through the esophagus and mouth. Belching in particular is not a health problem. Belching occurs simply because your stomach has accumulated air and now wants to get rid of it to reduce the pressure.

We all belch or burp, the air that goes in has to find a way to come out. Burps are fine but sometimes manners do matter. Too much burping can really make you feel embarrassing in public or events. In Eastern cultures it is a sign or expression of a good meal and in the west no matter how the meal was it is just not acceptable. So in order to reduce burping you need to swallow less air. Natural Ways To Cure Belching

Ginger

Ginger has got many medicinal properties. Many experts recommend ginger as a natural cure for a number if illnesses.

Ginger is a good option to stimulate digestion and prevent belching. You can have ginger capsules, have it raw or drink ginger tea after your meals.

Drink Tea

There are various options and flavors available for you to have tea. Chamomile, Raspberry, Mint or fennel tea will surely reduce belching. For the best results try having the tea hot.

Be Active

After you’re done with your meal, don’t just sit or lie down. If possible go for a walk or do some light physical work. Activity will force the burps out instead of letting them build-up.

Lemon Juice

Squeeze in some tangy lemon juice to stop belching. To prepare this, mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with 1/2tsp of baking soda and 1 cup of cool water. Have this after your meals for instant effect.

Peppermint

Again peppermint is said to work for many health problems. To cure belching, pour one cup of boiling water over one teaspoon of dried peppermint. Steep it for 5 minutes, strain it and then drink. You may have this two times a day.

Cardamom

During belching you tend to have muscle spasms in your stomach. Cardamom can reduce these spasms and control belching. It can also increase the production of digestive juices in your digestive track. Add one teaspoon of cardamom to a cup of water. Let it boil for 5mins and then try drinking it hot for best results.

Other Important Tips

Along with these you need to be aware of some basic mannerisms and follow them daily to prevent belching. Eating or drinking quickly may result in gulping extra air, so make sure you eat slowly. Eat in a relaxing environment without any stress.  Chew your food completely before swallowing.

Talking while you eat makes your mouth open and that’s when air enters, so make sure you don’t talk while eating. Avoid carbonated drinks as they contain carbon dioxide gas. If you’re having them try having small sips over longer period of time. While drinking, sip from a glass instead of straw or cans. Straw takes in more air. Avoid chewing gum, having candy or smoking.
