6 Natural Ways To Deal With RLS

Share

Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a neurological problem. It is characterized by some unpleasant feeling in the legs, some weird sensations on the skin of the legs as if something is crawling, pain at times and wanting to move the legs unnecessarily. This problem generally aggravates when a person does not get to sleep peacefully. This in turn leads to sleepless nights, tiredness, and irritation and ultimately stress. The exact cause of it is unknown though some say it is genetic, some say it is due to lack of certain nutrients, some say it is due to the chemical dopamine balance which manages the muscle movements in our body. This disorder is more prevalent in older women than man. It is a very stressful disorder. Currently there is no successful treatment for RLS but there are few home remedies that can reduce the discomfort.

Walk To Deal With RLS

Whenever you feel a lot of discomfort in your legs while you are sleeping, just move out of the bed and start walking around in your room for some time. This remedy will not treat RLS but it will certainly provide you relief for some time. Once you feel that there is no more uncomfortable sensation you can go back to sleep.

Exercising Before Retiring To Bed

It is advisable for people suffering from RLS to exercise before going to bed. One can do stretching exercises associated with the leg or knees. Doing brisk walking before going to bed also helps. When you exercise endorphins are released in the blood. This alters the chemical balance and hence provides peaceful sleep. One can also do meditation or yoga before retiring to bed. This helps to reduce stress and gives you good sleep.
