If you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia you know that there is no cure. You must learn to deal with fibromyalgia symptoms any way that you can. Try to stay as healthy as you can by following the common sense rules of a healthy, low-fat diet and mild to moderate exercise to keep your body strong and toned.
You may have to lower your expectations about how much you can do when you are suffering from fibromyalgia symptoms of pain and tenderness. Learn to let others know that you are having problems and ask for help if you need it. Break up your tasks into more manageable bits and give yourself permission to leave things undone if you must.
Insomnia
If you have trouble sleeping your fibromyalgia symptoms may get worse. Use some tried and true aromatherapy to help you get some restful sleep. Use a few drops of lavender oil on a cotton ball tucked under your pillow. Make a room spray with 5 to 20 drops of lavender essential oil in a half-cup of distilled water. Spray generously in your sleeping area. Lavender is known to calm anxiety. Another way to fight insomnia is to drink chamomile tea before retiring. Lavender, chamomile and rose oils can be added to Epsom salts for therapeutic baths before bed.
Establishing regular hours for bedtime can help to control insomnia. Avoid watching television or other stimulating activities before bed. If you are unable to sleep it is better to get up and have a glass or warm milk or a bath rather than tossing and turning for hours.
Muscle Pain
You may get immediate relief from fibromyalgia symptoms with essential oils like rosemary, peppermint and eucalyptus. Do not apply these oils directly to the skin. Use a few drops of one or more of these essential oils in a carrier oil like sesame, almond or olive oil. Massage into sore and tender muscles for pain relief.
Bath salts that ease pain can be made with two cups Epsom salts and 5 drops of each of these oils. Use ½ cup of salts in a warm bath to soothe fibromyalgia symptoms.
