5 Best Home Remedies For Bed Sores

Share

Bed sores are skin lesions which are caused by unrelieved pressure, friction, humidity, temperature and certain medications. Any part of the body that is bony and cartilaginous can be affected. The elbows, knees, ankles and the upper and back part of the pelvic cavity known as sacrum are the most commonly affected areas. Usually debilitated patients who are confined to bed or a wheelchair for a long period of time suffer from bed sores. The skin overlying a bony part is under constant pressure and friction and the tissue beneath it becomes damaged.

In severe cases the muscle and the bone too can become damaged. Bed sores develop more easily in patients who are unable to change their position on their own. The pressure exerted on that skin area deprives the skin of blood flow and nutrients as a result of which the smaller blood vessels clot to form a red and sore patch on the skin. If the patch is not treated timely then the skin breaks open and it develops into a painful wound.

5 Home Remedies For Bed Sores

Ghee

The first sign of a developing sore is a red patch which can be followed by local swelling and hardening of the tissue. Warm some ghee and rub it on the patch gently three or four times daily.

Ghee will keep the skin well lubricated and moisturized and it will also help to soften the hardening tissue. If the sore is open then ghee will soothe and heal the ulcer quickly and will also repair the damaged tissue.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has tremendous healing and curative powers. It not only nourishes the skin with its powerful nutrients but also kills any infection that may have penetrated the ulcers and heals the skin quickly and efficiently.

Take some coconut oil and dab it all over the sores as frequently as possible. Coconut oil will also reduce the friction and keep the skin well lubricated.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is widely known for its miraculous healing and curative powers. It has potent antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties that heal the sores rapidly and reduce the pain. Take a fresh aloe vera leaf and cut away its thorny edges.

Slice the leaf in the middle and rub the gel side on the sores three or four times daily. Aloe vera will also eradicate any bacteria and fungus that may have infected the sore.

Amla

Amla has stupendous healing powers and is useful for curing almost every disease and ailment. It has great resources of vitamin C which is very useful for repairing and regenerating the damaged tissue cells and for keeping the blood vessels in good health. Drink half a cup of amla juice every morning on an empty stomach.

Pumpkin Seeds

Eat a handful of pumpkin seeds on a daily basis to enhance the levels of zinc in the body. Zinc not only boosts immunity but also promotes wound healing. Pumpkin seeds are also rich in other nutrients that are very beneficial to a sick and ailing body.
