When you are young, hair is black or dark in colour because the hair follicle contains two varieties of the pigment melanin: pheomelanin and eumelanin. When eumelanin is present in greater quantity, the hair tends to be black. Higher amount of pheomelanin makes the hair look brown or blond. Other shades of hair are auburn, chestnut and red. But when the melanin pigment is deficient in the hair, the hair turn grey or white. Grey hair is a natural consequence of the aging process.
Usually, by the time you reach the age of 50 years, hair start to turn white or grey because the cells in the hair follicles stop producing melanin in adequate quantity. However, hair can also become grey prematurely in some people. This can be as a result of illness, such as thyroid hormone deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, malnutrition, and certain autoimmune diseases.
Grate a few small pieces of ginger. Use it to make one tablespoon of ginger paste. Mix it thoroughly in 3-4 tablespoons of honey. Drink this mixture once or twice a day. Alternatively, you can add this mixture to your food and consume it. It is a very good natural home remedy to control and halt the greying of hair.
Henna is a well-known remedy for fighting grey hair. Take two spoons of henna powder. Add to it yogurt (1 spoon) and fenugreek paste (1 spoon). Mix these three ingredients thoroughly to make a paste. Apply this paste on your scalp and leave it on for 2-3 hours. Then wash the hair thoroughly with a shampoo. Doing this twice a week will make the hair look darker in colour.
Another good remedy for grey hair is the mixture of coconut oil and lemon juice. Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix these two ingredients thoroughly. Then use the mixture to massage your scalp for 30 min. After the massage, wash your hair with cold water. It will make the hair look healthy, dark and shiny.
Add a teaspoon of salt to a cup of black tea. Make sure the tea is strong and do not add any milk to the tea. Mix the salt thoroughly in the black tea so that it dissolves evenly. Use this solution to massage the hair thoroughly for 30 min. Wash off the hair after an hour. Follow this procedure regularly to see full benefits.
Lemon juice even when used alone is quite effective in controlling the greying of hair. Squeeze a lemon into a cup of water. Mix the two thoroughly. Use this juice to massage your hair. Later use normal water to wash it off. You need to use this remedy once a week. Lemon acts as a natural colouring agent. However, the hair may turn brownish if this remedy is used regularly.
Add some coconut oil to a sufficient quantity of henna powder. Mix these two ingredients well till you get the right consistency of paste. Apply this paste on the hair and leave it on for 3-4 hours. Then wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo and water. After a few such applications, the hair will start to look darker. You can use this remedy regularly once a week.
