5 Best Natural Cures For Gum Swelling

Share

Swollen gums are often a sign of gum disease. There are many factors that can contribute to gum swelling. If you use a hard toothbrush and brush aggressively there are chances that the gum tissues which are very delicate get injured. This injury causes swelling and tenderness in the gums. Plaque which is a colorless thin film is full of harmful bacteria. This film is continually forming on the gum line.

If plaque is allowed to accumulate then it corrodes the gum tissues and leads to inflammation, tenderness, pain and bleeding. Bacteria buildup leads to gums diseases such as gingivitis and periodontal disease. In addition to swollen and inflamed gums, these diseases also cause foul breath, tender and bleeding gums and receding gums. The gums and bone which support the teeth also become severely weakened and may result in tooth loss.

Salt And Ginger

Grate one big piece of ginger and squeeze it to extract the juice. Take one teaspoon of this juice and add some salt to it. Mix well and massage your teeth and gums with this mixture for five minutes. Ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Salt and ginger will reduce the painful swelling. They will also destroy the harmful bacteria and prevent the formation of plaque. You should use this massage after every meal. Once the swelling has abated, you can use it twice daily.

Dental Hygiene

Poor dental hygiene is very often a cause for swollen gums. People tend to eat refined starches and sugars and junk food indiscriminately which are very harmful for the teeth. These foods promote bacterial growth in the mouth. On top of these unhealthy foods, if you don’t brush your teeth then the bacteria multiply rampantly and infect the gums causing them to swell and become painful.

The bacteria are forever present on the teeth. They release toxic substances that harm the gums and infect them therefore it is important to floss and brush your teeth regularly. Care should also be taken to use a soft brush instead of a hard toothbrush.

Castor oil has superb antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It will destroy the bacteria and curb the infection. Camphor has great pain relieving properties. Use this massage once in the morning and once at night till your gums are healed.

Mustard Oil

Massage your gums with mustard oil twice daily. Mustard oil will not only inhibit the formation of plaque but it will also eliminate the swelling and pain and stop the bleeding. Regular use will keep your gums strong and healthy.

Lemon

Prepare your own mouthwash with lemon and water. Take a glass of warm water and squeeze the juice of one lemon into it. Rinse your mouth with this solution after every meal. Lemon has powerful anti-inflammatory and cleansing properties which will reduce the swelling and will keep your teeth and gums free from bacteria.
