Heart gets enlarged due to the damage of the heart muscles and with the increasing damage, the enlargement increases. With the enlargement of heart the efficiency of pumping the blood to different parts of the body declines. It is very essential to recognize the exact causes of enlarged heart to cure the problem effectively. Below, I will try to focus on a few basic causes of enlarged heart.

Various Causes Of Enlarged Heart

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a condition in which the heart has to work harder to pump the required amount of blood compared to the normal situation. In this condition the blood becomes thick to be pumped easily. Thus, it makes the heart muscles well built and thick. This leads to enlargement of heart. High blood pressure is one of the common reasons behind heart enlargement.

Heart Attack

The heart becomes weak due to the encountered heart attack due to which it has to work very hard to pump the blood to the requisite parts of the body. This excessive working of the heart makes the muscles very thick and hard. The thickening and stiffening of the heart muscles lead to the enlargement of heart.

Birth Defect

There are several situations in which a person can have heart disease from the time of birth. Any kind of heart ailment affects the blood flow in the body parts. An affected heart is always weak and has to work hard to do its job. Thus, this over load of work makes its muscles grow thick, leading to the enlargement of heart. However, this situation can be brought under control through lifetime medication.

Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which there is deficiency of red blood cell which is responsible to supply oxygen to different organs of the body. Due to this deficiency the heart needs to pump up rapidly to fulfill the lack of oxygen. This causes increase in the heart beat. If Anemia is left untreated, in due course makes the heart weak and work harder to pump up the blood to different parts of the body. Thus, making the heart muscles thick and enlarged.

Excess Of Iron In Body

This is a condition in which the body is unable to metabolize the iron of the body. The excessive presence of iron in a body may cause formations in different organs and also in the heart arteries. This makes the heart weak.

This weak heart works hard to pump the blood to different parts of the body. This in turn makes the heart muscles thick and enlarged. Thus, we conclude that any factor which interferes with the normal functioning of heart may lead to the enlargement of heart.
