Share

The cough is a very common disorder and is often caused by a sudden cold, changing atmosphere, irritating fumes, drawing food into the airways or by breathing dust, etc. However, chronic cough refers to mucus secretion that leads to constant coughing. This is very discomforting and painful at times. Chronic cough arises as a result of flu, cold, tuberculosis, pneumonia, etc.

It is advisable to consult a doctor in case you are suffering from chronic cough. However, along with that you can try out a host of natural remedies that are very effective in curing cough. In this article we have got a few of those remedies. Let us take a look!

Natural Cures For Chronic Cough

Garlic

Garlic is considered as one of the best natural remedies when it comes to treating chronic cough. It is rich in antiviral and antibiotic properties. Garlic is also an expectorant. You can eat four to five raw cloves of garlic on a regular basis if you can, but because of the strong taste and odor most people will not opt for it.

So, what you can do is mix a few garlic cloves in plain yogurt and eat it. Or you can add the cloves at the last minute before you have your soup or pasta or in your salad. Garlic should not be cooked as cooking robs it of its effectiveness. You can also have garlic broth.

Honey And Ginger

Finely chop some fresh ginger in a cup of honey. Have a teaspoon of this mixture every two hours for at least two weeks. You will be amazed to see the difference.

Another remedy is to add a tbsp of honey in a glass of lukewarm water. Add a dash of lemon juice if you want to. Drinking this concoction twice daily will get you relief from chronic cough.

Butter Or Almond Paste

If you have chronic cough then take about a tbsp of organic butter or almond paste. If you want you can add a tsp of honey to it in order to enhance its taste. Have it for about five to seven times in a day for best results.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Add one tsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of filtered water. Drink this concoction about four to five times every day to soothe congestion or cough.

You can also mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one tsp of honey to one glass of lukewarm water and have this drink twice daily and see your chronic cough vanish in no time at all.

Salt

The best solution to treat a gargle is the salt-water gargle. Add a pinch of salt in a glass of water and heat it until lukewarm. Gargle properly with this solution at least three times a day.

This requires your patience as you need to remain devoted to this method for about two to three weeks in case you want to treat a chronic cough. The salt mixed with lukewarm water acts as an astringent and aids in loosening the mucus and providing relief to the throat.
