Help in Preventing Hair Loss

Share

Most people do not look forward to losing their hair.  There are things you can do now to help in preventing hair loss.  Our hair needs vitamins, minerals and nutrients to be healthy just like our bodies do.  While there are vitamins and supplements you can take, the best way to consume them is through the foods you eat.  Since iron deficiency is a big culprit of hair loss, try to eat foods rich in iron, which is a big variety.  Some of these foods are red meats, egg yolks, dark leafy greens like spinach and collard greens, dried fruits like prunes and raisins, iron-enriched cereals, breads and grains-check the label, oysters, scallops and clams, turkey or chicken giblets, beans, lentils, garbanzo beans, soybeans, liver, and artichokes.  Eating foods rich in vitamin C also helps to absorb the iron, such as oranges, grapefruits, tomatoes, broccoli, mango, papaya, red, yellow or orange bell peppers, kiwi, and even potatoes.  Calcium is also good for your hair and can be found in more foods than just milk.  You can choose low fat dairy products like yogurt and cheese, or try eating more oranges, leafy green vegetables, fruits, tofu, almonds, peanuts, beans and salmon.

Healthy changes to your diet will not only help your figure and the health of your hair, but can actually help reduce your stress, which is another big reason for hair loss.  Stress is everywhere, by trying to manage your stress you are a taking step towards preventing hair loss.  You can get a massage, meditate, start an exercise routine, or join a yoga class.  Some people have hobbies that relax them, thus relieving stress, such as gardening, bird watching, photography or walking on the beach.  So you can actually find ways to incorporate exercise while doing something you enjoy, and your hair will benefit too!

Many medications can also harm your hair, either from side effects, allergic reactions, or depleting your hair and follicles of the vitamins and nutrients it needs.  You can try to avoid these medications, using natural alternatives.  Yet another benefit of trying to eat healthier is that you may get sick less often.
