The use of certain herbs can help relieve heartburn symptoms, and are a lot safer than various over the counter pills and acid reducers.  You can experience with different home remedies for heartburn to see which provides you with the most relief.  This can be done inexpensively as well.

Chewable antacids can actually be harmful to your health, especially with regular use.  One alternative to these chewable tablets is called DGL, or deglycyrrhizinated licorice.  Licorice is an herb plant most commonly used as a flavoring for food, drinks and candy.  The root of the licorice plant is usually what is used for medicinal purposes.  DGL is licorice that has had the glycyrrhizin removed from it because it has side effects such as causing high blood pressure and water retention.  So you are only getting the good benefits of the licorice without the possible side effects.  DGL is available in chewable tabs. It can be found at your local health food store, some supermarkets and pharmacy stores that carry herbal supplements and it is rather inexpensive.

Licorice is used for various medicinal ailments including heartburn. Licorice can help soothe the esophagus, decrease inflammation, stop the growth of some harmful bacteria in the stomach, and help with ulcers.  If you are taking any prescription medications, licorice may interact with certain medications so you read the label carefully or you may want to choose another of the home remedies for heartburn.

Licorice root is available as a tea also.  This tea is usually combined with other herbs and spices to make a tasty tea you can sip on day and night, hot or cold, and receive the same benefits as from the chewable form of licorice.  The tea can also soothe the symptoms of heartburn almost instantly.

You can find licorice root in liquid form at your local health food store.  It usually comes in a bottle with a dropper, which you can use to measure out several drops and add it to your favorite tea, juice, or water.  This will provide the same benefits as described above, and is a natural home remedy for heartburn.
