Home Remedies for Heartburn Using Various Foods

Share

In your search for home remedies for heartburn, there are certain foods you can use to soothe and help heal your acid reflux.  Add these foods to your diet to help improve your digestive tract, soothe your esophagus and prevent heartburn altogether.

Though it sounds like it is too acidic to help with heartburn, apple cider vinegar is one of the best and most affordable of the home remedies for heartburn.  It is best to get an organic apple cider vinegar from your local health food store or whole food market.  You should also use raw vinegar.  This is not pasteurized, and therefore has the enzymes in it that helps food digest.  All you have to do is add about one tablespoon to eight ounces of water and sip on it, don’t drink it fast.  You can add it to cold or hot water, and though not highly recommended you can add some honey to make it taste better.  You can do this up to three times a day, and you can also adjust the amount of vinegar down to two teaspoons or up to two tablespoons per eight ounces of water to find the amount that works best for you.  Though it is not the tastiest drink, it works wonders by helping your food to digest and introducing enzymes to your stomach that help kill of harmful bacteria.

Another food that most people relate to causing heartburn when it is actually a surprising soother and healer is garlic.  It works best when eaten in raw form, not cooked.  If you can handle the taste then eat one or two cloves of raw garlic.  This is easier to do if you eat it with a meal, slice or chop it up and mix with your food.  You can also add a couple peeled cloves to your juicer if making vegetable or carrot juice.  The benefits are the same as apple cider vinegar, but garlic can be a little more soothing.  The downside to this choice of home remedies for heartburn is garlic breath.  You can chew on anise or fennel seeds, or a sprig of parsley to counteract this.
