5 Home Remedies For Puffy Eyes

Share

Puffy eyes are very common and are usually related to your health. The skin around the eyes is very thin and delicate. It is easily affected by the in-flow and outflow of fluids. When the fluid accumulates under the eyes it puffs up the skin and gives it a swollen look. Pouches or bags appear under the eyes and give one a very a sunken and dejected look. Too much intake of salt, dehydration, stress, anxiety and weariness can lead to puffy eyes.

Severe colds, flu, allergies and sinusitis can also cause puffy eyes. Late nights and improper sleep often make you wake up with swollen and puffy eyes. Sometimes your sleep position too can contribute to bags under the eyes. Sleeping on your stomach causes fluids to gather under your eyes and make them puffy. Drinking too much alcohol causes dehydration. It weakens the tender skin around the eyes and makes it sink into a pouch.

Useful Home Remedies For Puffy Eyes

Water

Drink ten to twelve glasses of water everyday. Eyes tend to get puffy because of salt concentration in the area around the eyes. Drinking a lot of water will flush away the accumulated salt. It will also prevent dehydration and reduce the swelling under the eyes. You should also splash water on your face from time to time. Splashing water will contract the distended skin around the eyes and will reduce the swelling.

Black Tea

Brew some black tea and chill the tea bags in the refrigerator. Lie down on your back and place the chilled tea bags on your eyelids for fifteen minutes or until they become warm. Black tea is rich in anti-inflammatory properties which help to diminish the swelling and reduce the puffiness. It also alleviates the strain and soothes the eyes considerably Use the tea bags three or four times regularly until the puffiness disappears completely.

Sound Sleep

If you have puffy eyes all day long it is probably because you are not getting enough restful sleep. It is not unusual to wake up with puffy and swollen eyes after a night of fitful sleep. It is important to get at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. Use an extra pillow to elevate your head so that the fluid is not drastically drawn down to collect under the eyes.

Milk

Take some chilled milk and rub it gently around the eyes to prevent the skin around your eyes from getting loose and filling up with fluid. Rub the milk for five minutes or so and then let it dry on the skin. After half an hour wash your face with water. Milk will tighten the skin under the eyes and prevent it from sagging. It will also disperse the accumulated fluid and reduce the puffiness.

Besan

Take one teaspoon of besan and mix some curd with it to form a paste. Apply the paste under the eyes. You can also apply it all over your face if you want. Let the paste dry then gently rub it off, from under the eyes. Wash your face with water. Besan will tighten the skin under the eyes and will reduce the puffiness.
