How to Treat Acne Scars

Share

Acne scarring is a problem that many people have to deal with. The best way to prevent getting acne scars is to prevent the acne altogether. Taking some form of acne treatment is the best way to do so. Also, if you get acne, try not to touch the pimple or pick at the scabs. Sometimes, acne scars are unavoidable. Luckily, there are some acne scar treatments that can help heal the wounds.

Avoiding sun, using a tretinoin and vitamin e will help with minor acne scars, but most people that are looking for acne scar treatments have moderate to severe scarring. For these people, a stronger acne scar treatment is needed. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are common forms of acne scar treatment. Both help resurface the skin and get rid of hyper-pigmentation. After the first treatment, you will notice improvement, but the acne scarring will still be there. It may take many treatments for you to notice a big difference and it may not completely heal the wounds.

Laser acne scar treatment is another way to heal the scars. Laser skin resurfacing has been proven to give excellent results when treating acne scars. It resurfaces the skin and smooths lines and imperfections. After having the treatment done you will need to strictly follow an ointment regimen and avoid sun exposure for about two weeks. If you follow these guidelines there is a good chance that your acne scarring will be completely gone.

Some dermatologists will also perform acne scar surgery. This form of acne scar treatment is for severe acne and is very complex. The doctor will use certain tools to scrape the acne scar out. Then, the remaining tissue is brought to the surface and smoothed out by a graft and injection. It is a very complex surgery and should only be used as a last case scenario. There are also a lot of post-surgical guidelines you must follow.

There are many choices when it comes to acne scar treatment. Each one targets a different severity and type of scar. Speak with a dermatologist to figure out which treatment will best suit your needs.
