Some are inherited, others develop later on in life. Some are very severe, others can be easily treated. Since there are many different forms, there are also many ways to treat anemia.

Taking an iron supplement is the most common way to treat anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common form of anemia. It is caused by an insufficient amount of iron in the body. Since iron is needed for hemoglobin production, if there is not enough iron, there will not be enough hemoglobin or healthy red blood cells. Also, there will not be enough red blood cells to transport oxygen to the body’s organs and tissues and therefore, they will not function properly. If you take and iron supplement to the as a way to treat anemia you will help the hemoglobin production. Also, you could make a few easy dietary changed to treat anemia. Including iron-rich foods into your diet will help treat anemia. Red meat, dairy, eggs and leafy greens are common foods that are high in iron.

Vitamin supplements are also a common way to treat anemia. Iron is not the only this needed to produce hemoglobin. Folate and vitamin b-12 are needed as well. Taking a b-12 and folate supplement, along with the iron supplement will help your increase hemoglobin production and increase anemia symptoms.

Another way to treat anemia is to have a blood transfusion. Doctors like to use this as a last case scenario, but if there is a lot of blood loss associated with the anemia, then the transfusion is needed. The same goes for bone marrow transplants. They are sometimes needed to treat anemia. The bone marrow is responsible for red blood cell production and if the problem lies in the bone marrow, a transplant may be needed. However, this surgery is very risky and should only be performed if absolutely needed.

Sometimes antibiotics and pain medication is needed to treat anemia and the symptoms caused. This is common for anemia that is caused by a chronic illness. Since there are many different ways to treat anemia, it is very important to know what is causing the anemia first.
