It is quite evident that hormonal imbalance, particularly reproductive hormones estrogen and progesterone, are a major cause for endometriosis. So for creating a proper balance of these hormones, cutting back on certain foods, especially animal fats, is necessary.
Red meat, high-fat dairy products, excessive intake of coffee, tea and colas, processed foods, shell-fish and farmed fish, and salty foods are some of the foods you must avoid, if you have endometriosis. Animal fats contain polychlorinated biphenyls and dioxin that can encourage hormonal imbalance and aggravate the symptoms.
Certain foods that are helpful in balancing estrogen and improving the metabolic process are fresh fruits and vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts. Foods like pineapple, garlic and onions can be helpful in reducing inflammation. To fight fatigue and other symptoms associated with endometriosis, include fatty fish, chicken, eggs, corn, rice, lentils, beans, peas etc. in your diet.
Also eat nuts, seeds and flaxseed oil, primrose and pumpkin oil. Foods containing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid can be helpful in reducing inflammation, easing menstrual flow by relaxing the uterus and expanding the blood vessels and also relive you from pain. Drinking mineral water obtained from still sources is another effective remedy for endometriosis.
Herbs can be helpful in treating the symptoms of endometriosis. Herbs that are recommended to bring relief include ashwagandha and Siberian ginseng for stress relief and fatigue, echinacea for building immunity, and chaste berry and vitex for normalizing menstruation.
For balancing the hormones dong quai, motherwort and red raspberry are recommended. Dandelion and milk thistle can be helpful in improving liver function. Some herbal teas like ginger and chamomile may be effective in relieving the sufferer from nausea, fatigue and pain associated with endometriosis.
Application of ice on the pelvic area for 15-20 minutes, several times a day can be helpful to relive endometriosis suffers from pain. You can also use ice and heating pad alternatively to get relief from pain.
Acupuncture can also aid in balancing reproductive hormones and restore proper balance, thus bringing relief from other symptoms like pain and stress associated with endometriosis.
Massaging the stomach and pelvic area using essential oil can bring relief to the patient from pain. Massaging should be done on the stomach and pelvic area gently in clockwise motion. Massage will relax the muscles, improve blood circulation and ease pain.
