6 Natural Cures For Frozen Shoulder

Share

Did you wake up in the morning feeling a tightness in the muscles of your shoulders? Long hours of sitting upright, improper sleeping positions or a sudden spasm may lead to temporary locking of shoulder muscles.

This in turn leads to immobility and excruciating pain in the shoulder. This condition is known as frozen shoulder. Instead of taking pills to kill pain and get rid of the discomfort, try natural methods to cure frozen shoulder. Listed below are some easy home remedies to treat frozen shoulder.

How To Cure Frozen Shoulder

Use Cold And Hot Compresses

Fill a bag or a sock with common salt. Place the bag on a preheated pan so that it may absorb the heat from the pan. Make sure that the heated utensil is completely dry.Take five to six ice cubes and wrap in a hand towel. Now hold the heated bag and the towel on the affected part of your shoulder alternately, pressing it against the skin for a few seconds. Repeat until all the heat is absorbed from the bag. The cold and heat compresses must be used at least five times during the day for best effects against frozen shoulder.

Watch Your Sleeping Posture

Make sure never to sleep on the side of the shoulder that is frozen. This will increase the pain. Do not use a pillow and soft mattress when you are suffering from frozen shoulder.

Moist Heat Therapy

This is the easiest natural cure for frozen shoulder. Wet towel with very hot water. Wring the towel so that there is no water dripping from it. Now wrap the warm towel around your shoulder and leave it in this position for at least ten minutes or till the heat is completely absorbed into the skin.Remove the towel and try to move your affected shoulder slowly and steadily. This therapy must be taken for minimum five sessions in one day for best results.

Garlic And Mustard Oil Therapy

Heat two tablespoons of mustard oil in a pan. Crush two to three cloves of garlic and add them in the heated mustard oil. Let it cook for five minutes before removing from heat. Take this paste as it cools down a bit. Apply on your affected shoulder and massage in circular movements with your hands.

This therapy is effective not only in curing frozen shoulder but also preventing its recurrence. Follow garlic and mustard oil therapy with moist heat therapy for best results.

Eat Flaxseeds

Flaxseed contains omega 3 fatty acids which have anti inflammatory benefits. This helps to reduce swelling in the shoulder joint caused due to frozen shoulder. Grind flaxseeds into powder form and add in your daily food or consume raw. Pumpkin seeds may also be used in the same way for similar properties.

Exercise Regularly

Contrary to the concept that no activity should be undertaken when you suffer from frozen shoulder, one should do proper exercises to ease the pain. Strength training is very effective in curing frozen shoulder. Light weight training is also useful. But perform these exercises only under professional guidance.
