Fever blisters are very common among today’s population. It is a type of virus that stays dormant until outside factors aggravate it. The virus produces painful blisters in, on, or around the mouth and face. These blisters can be an unsightly distraction. They often bleed and prevent one from eating normally. Luckily there are several home remedies that provide quick and easy healing.

It is important to apply certain forms of antiseptic such as vinegar, honey, and salt. These household products contain tons of antiseptic properties that reduce swelling, bleeding, cracking, and pain associated with fever blisters.

Dab vinegar or honey to the blister and around the affected area to clean the wound to reduce swelling and pain.

With the salt you want to dab it on your finger and hold it to the blister for one minute and do that twice a day for three days. This will be painful but it will heal completely and even though it hurts initially the salt relieves the pain of the blister for several hours afterword.

Tea has also proven very affective in relieving the symptoms of fever blisters simply by drinking it. Teas like sage with ginger extracts is said to reduce pain and swelling. Even a tea bag boiled then cooled and pressed against the fever blister is said to reduce the healing time and swelling.

When dealing with a child, things like water-based popsicles can provide relief. Any sort of water-based cold compress can be used to reduce pain and swelling. When using ice cubes rub the ice cube over the sore for ten minutes this will not only reduce pain but it will speed up the healing time as well.

There are also several preventative home treatments like Vaseline, which prevents a blister from breaking through the skin. It also stops the cracking and bleeding of current blisters. The application of sunscreen (at least 15 SPF) prevents the reoccurrences of fever blisters related to sunburn.

Although many commercial products are available to treat fever blisters they can sometimes be costly and do not always show results.
