Preventing a Heart Attack

Share

There are many things you can do to lower your risks and prevent a heart attack. The best course of action is to watch what you eat and change your diet if it is unhealthy. Another thing you can do is exercise on a regular basis to maintain your ideal weight. There is no cure for a heart attack. It happens sometimes without any warning signs. Taking preventive measures now is the first step in lowering your chances of having one.

The foods that you eat and consume on a regular basis can be sending you on your way to a heart attack. It is important to always read the nutritional labels on the back of products you purchase. All restaurants are required by law to provide this information for all the items on their menu. Do not be afraid to ask for this information. If they cannot provide it, or make excuses, then leave and find somewhere else to dine. The reason nutritional information is important is it contains what is considered a normal serving size. It also shows you how much fat, sodium, cholesterol, proteins, sugars, dietary fiber and other important information. You should stay away from foods that are high in sodium, sugars, cholesterol and saturated and trans fats.

You should avoid fast food restaurants. These are unhealthy food choices that lead to obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease and heart attack. There have been several studies conducted over the years that show that people that consume fast food on a regular basis can develop addictive behaviors for these unhealthy foods.

When preparing meals at home, you should use lean cuts of meat, fish, and poultry. Remove any skins from chicken and turkey. Do not use any breaded coatings even when baking. Rather use your herbs and spices in your spice rack, along with citrus juices to provide added flavor. Try to use fresh vegetables and fruits rather than canned or frozen ones.

Develop a regular exercise program and stick with it. Walking, jogging, or even running for about twenty minutes three times a week can greatly lower your risks for heart attack.
