5 Symptoms For Asperger Syndrome

Share

Behavioral problems manifest themselves in several forms and one such form is known as Asperger syndrome or Asperger’s disorder. There is no particular symptom or any single symptom that can be regarded to be the identifying symptom for the medical condition. Instead Asperger symptom has many symptoms that are exhibited almost at the same time.

It should not be confused with Autism as there are many dissimilarities between the two conditions. Children are found to suffer more from Asperger syndrome. In this article we will mention a few of the symptoms that can help you in detecting the disease in your child.

Symptoms For Asperger Syndrome

Difficulty With Social Skills

This condition is not any physical ailment instead it’s a psychological disorder wherein the child has poor social interaction skills. If you observe your child or any other person to have fewer friends or if he or she has difficulty in conversing with others you can consider it to be an indication for the disease. Though there can be other reasons you should inquire about this behavior of your child.

Behavioral Problems

You may observe that your child feels scared while initiating a conversation, avoids eye contact , is often reluctant and has unusual facial expressions or body postures. You will observe repetitive motor mannerisms such as flapping or twisting the hand or finger, moving the whole body in an abnormal manner etc. If any of these symptoms persist for a long period of time you need to become alert as it has high chances for the disease.

Unusual Preoccupations Or Habits

Children with Asperger syndrome will demonstrate unusual behaviors such as having a particular way of talking or dressing. They will repeat words that are not to be used in a particular situation or may get dressed up in a way that might be inappropriate for the situation. You will observe that your child has begun to show interest in subjects where normally a child of his or her age might not show any interest at all. These can include decorating houses, intense interest in weird subjects like “snake” etc.

Difficulty In Expression

A child suffering from Asperger syndrome will have little or no reaction towards the expression of other people. There is a complete failure to express correct and corresponding reactions that could be social or emotional. They fail to empathize with the feelings of other people and cannot react to what others might be saying to them.

The child may suddenly begin to scream at people though there might not be any reason to do that. It is presumed by psychiatrists that the child might wish to draw attention by doing this but gets confused when you respond back to him or her.

Clumsy Or Lazy Behavior

You will observe that the child is lazy or clumsy in his or her ways. He or she will not like to go out and play or even do their own works. It is difficult to coax them to do it as they are often pre-occupied with their in interests that would be very different from the normal ones. They lack spontaneity and need assistance.
