3 Best Eczema Cures

Share

There may not be any eczema cures because this chronic skin condition has no known cause.  It seems to be hereditary and is often associated with asthma and hay fever.  Allergies do not cause eczema but they aggravate the condition.  Instead of eczema cures we should be looking for symptom relief.

Eczema normally strikes babies and children and the condition can persist into adulthood.  Some people do not have symptoms until they are elderly.  The rash can appear on almost any part of the body, but most commonly it is seen on the hands, feet, face and chest.  A mild to intense itch accompanies the red and inflamed skin.

Doctors will prescribe antihistamines and cortisone creams to suppress the symptoms but these pharmaceuticals are not eczema cures.  If you do not want to use these medicines, you can try some home remedies and herbal remedies that soothe and heal irritated skin.

Topical Treatments

Use clear aloe vera gel to moisturize the skin.  It feels cool and soothing when you apply it and there is no medicinal odor and no side effects.  This succulent plant has long spear-shaped leaves that can be peeled and squeezed to produce the gel.  You can also buy the gel at your drug or health food store where it is often marketed as an “after sun” skin conditioner.   This is as close to an eczema cure as you can get.

Recommended Products

Herbal infusions of chamomile or rosemary can be applied to the skin or used in a compress.  An herbal poultice of fresh chickweed is known to reduce itchiness.  Burdock is another common weed useful in treating eczema symptoms.

A paste of turmeric can be applied to the skin for its anti-inflammatory properties.  Creams made with calendula can soothe inflammation.  Marshmallow root cream helps the skin to heal.

Milk baths can provide relief for itchy skin.  Just add one can of evaporated milk to the water before bathing and rinse with cool water afterwards.  An oatmeal bath is another home remedy for inflamed skin.  Sprinkle a handful of regular, plain oatmeal in the water.  Do not use the flavored instant oatmeal.

There are no eczema cures but there are many ways to relieve the symptoms.
