Tips to Deal with Fibromyalgia Fatigue

Chronic muscle pain and tenderness of fibromyalgia can result in fibromyalgia fatigue.  Here are a few tips to help you cope.

Be kind to yourself and know your limits.  Don’t attempt to do too much at one time whether it is housework, exercise or socializing.  Don’t beat yourself up if you are having a bad day.  Ask for help from others for difficult tasks.  If no help is available, postpone the job until you can arrange for help.  In some cases you should learn to relax your standards a little.  Remember the cost to you if you overdo:  pain and fibromyalgia fatigue.

Herbal Tonic for Fibromyalgia Fatigue

A combination of green tea and Korean red ginseng (Panax ginseng) can revive you when your energy begins to fail.  The many medical benefits of green tea and ginseng are not limited to revitalizing your energy.  Drink this tea two or three times per day when fibromyalgia fatigue is strongest, but avoid drinking it close to bedtime as it may keep you awake.

Anxiety and Insomnia

Anxiety and Insomnia may contribute to the burden of fibromyalgia fatigue.  Establish a calming bedtime routine and go to bed at the same time every night.  Make your sleeping area cool and dark to promote restful sleep.  Avoid reading or watching television before bed and refuse to have a television in your bedroom.

Part of a restful bedtime routine can be a soothing and sleep inducing cup of chamomile tea.  Aromatherapy candles with lavender and rose oils can establish a mood conducive to rest.  Use bath oils, bath salts or shower gels with lavender, chamomile and rose oils at bedtime.  Don’t forget the importance of comfortable night clothes and bed linens made of natural materials like cotton.  Replace tired pillows and sagging mattresses for better sleep.

If you toss and turn for more than 30 minutes after retiring you may become too anxious to sleep.  Get out of bed and have a warm glass of milk or some chamomile tea.  Avoid any television or reading that may be too stimulating.  Find a meditation or relaxation tape or DVD which suits you.  Ambient sound tapes can also be used to relax you and promote rest.

Fibromyalgia fatigue can be relieved with these tips and you can add others to your repertoire.

  • I recently was diagnosed with psoriasis, what has worked for me is warm epsom salt soaks and baby vaseline. This is a daily ritual that seems to be working, almost all the flakes are gone and my skin is becoming smooth again.

  • So I have had psoriasis for about eight years now. The last two years have been the worst. In the beginning of these two years I was covered head to toe. Also for the last two years I have been on the drug soriatane 25mg and I must say that it has been most unpleasent. The side effects were almost as bad as haveing the problem. Starting this past Monday(6/7/10) I have decided to stop taking the drug and try some of these remedies. So far what I have done was the vapor rub on one side of the body and vaseline on the other. These were the two most widely used and effective ones that I could find. So far I am seeing a small improvement but we shall see here in a few more weeks. I will keep you all posted.   • i have had psoriasis for 6 years on my elbows and my knees and i have tried every medication out there from prescribed to OTC and nothing really helped. The past 2 weeks i have tried EPSOM SALTS in the bath followed by COCONUT OIL 3 times a day and what a difference i have seen in this short time.......no more dead scaly skin and the redness is starting to fade. I am going to keep this treatment up for a few more months and i will report back on the results.
