Effective Herbal Remedies For Runny Nose

Peppermint

Menthol is the main constituent which is present in peppermint. This wonder plant has the ability to thin down the mucous and help in decongestion. Peppermint also relieves the cough by acting as an expectorant. Take a few leaves of dried peppermint and make tea from it. Take about one cup of boiling water and put 1 teaspoon of peppermint leaves in it. Leave it for ten minutes and let the water soak the peppermint leaves. Drink this tea all through the day to alleviate the symptom of runny nose.

Echinacea

Echinacea helps to avert the common cold and reduce the acuteness of runny nose. The supplements of Echinacea plant come in a variety of forms which include the roots, flowers and leaves. All these various forms of Echinacea contain a range of strengths.

Ginger

Ginger is also a very common yet powerful remedy for runny nose. Take a small piece of raw ginger, peel it and chew it. Another way to make it tastier is to grate about one teaspoon of ginger and coat it with honey and consume it. Once you gobble up the ginger, the enzymes present in it will take action to boost the blood circulation all over the body, diminishing the swelling and soreness and at the same time. It will also improve the drainage of the nasal routes.

Another option is – take 2 cups of water, boil it and add a piece of ginger, boil it for about ten minutes. Remove the ginger tea from fire, add sugar and drink it. Make this tea 3-4 times in a day and consume it to ease the runny nose.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a very popular remedy for common cold. It enhances a unique aroma to almost anything to which it is added like in cough drops or chest rubs etc. The vapors that come out from the eucalyptus oil act as a decongestant and expectorant which helps to dilute the mucous and unlock the nasal passages. This in turn helps in alleviating the respiratory tract congestion and eases the breathing. This magical plant is used to cure runny nose and common cold. Astragalus has anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties. You can consume it in the form of tea. The main part of the plant which has medicinal properties is its root. In market you can also avail the tablets or capsules of Astragalus. This is a safe herb which is advised to be taken almost 3 times in a day.
