Top 5 Home Remedies For Hand Pain

Share

Hand pain can be caused by a number of factors. If the wrist tendons, at the base of the thumb, swell due to inflammation or irritation then the resulting pain travels the length of the thumb up to the forearm. This condition known as de Quervain’s tendinois results from repetitive activities and overuse of the hand. This condition makes turning the wrists or grasping or holding an object painful and difficult. Carpal tunnel syndrome causes pain in the palm, wrist, forearm and some fingers of the hand.

It also causes numbness, tingling and weakness in the thumb, index finger and the middle finger. The median nerve which passes through the carpal tunnel gets inflamed and pinched by irritated and swollen tendons. Pain in the hand can also be caused by osteoarthritis and gout. The most common form of hand pain is osteoarthritis which causes progressive degeneration of the cartilage.

Home Remedies For Hand Pain

Epsom Salt

Fill a bucket with hot water and dissolve one cup of Epsom salt into it. Soak your hands into it till the water turns tepid. Use the soak twice daily.

Epsom salt is rich in magnesium which, since it is easily absorbed by the skin, relieves the swelling and inflammation and soothes the irritated nerves and tendons. It also relaxes the muscles and eases the pressure on the pinched nerve.

Mustard Oil

Mustard oil has superb anti-inflammatory and pain healing properties. It is also rich in magnesium and other nutrients which repair the damaged cells and maintain the health of the tendons and the muscles. Warm some mustard oil and massage your hand and arm with it for ten to fifteen minutes.

Massage two or three times regularly. After a few days, you will notice a great difference in your pain and you will be able to grip and lift objects easily.

Ice Pack Or Hot Pack

Use an ice pack or a hot pack whichever is more suitable to you. Some people find relief from the pain by placing ice packs directly on the inflamed wrists. The ice reduces the swelling and numbs the pain.

However, some people get relief from the pain by placing hot packs on the hands, wrists and the arms. The moist heat also alleviates the inflammation and reduces the pain.

Coconut Oil And Camphor

Warm some coconut oil and add a piece of camphor to it. Massage your wrist, hand and the forearm. Pay special attention to the tendons in the wrist to stimulate the blood circulation and to increase the movement.

Massage each finger separately and stroke the thumb with a gentle pressure. Massage two or three times daily to get rid of the stiffness and pain.

Aloe Vera And Turmeric

Aloe vera and turmeric both have powerful anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Remove the gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf and mash in into a bowl.

Add one teaspoon of turmeric powder and warm the mixture on the fire. Apply the hot mixture on all the painful areas and bandage the whole area. Apply this mixture twice regularly to get rid of the pain.
