Ear infections are more common in children than in adults. They are caused by germs like bacteria and viruses that invade the ears and attack the middle ear. The middle ear consists of a small air pocket and is situated just behind the eardrum. The Eustachian tube connects the middle ear and the throat. This tube also prevents pressure from building up by letting the air move in and out of the middle ear.
If you have a cold or influenza or any other viral infection or allergies then the germs gain an entry into the middle ear through the Eustachian tube. As the germs grow inside the middle ear and cause infection, it fills up with pus.
The ear drum becomes red and inflamed. The pus presses against it, making it bulge and it is unable to move as it should. Ear infections cause terrible earache, discharge of thick yellow fluid from the ears, nausea, muffled hearing, fever, irritability and restlessness.
Garlic has potent antiviral antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which are more effective than commercial antibiotics and safe too into the bargain. It also contains allicin which has pain healing properties and acts as a natural anesthetic.
Take two teaspoons of mustard oil and add two cloves of garlic to it. Heat the oil and let the garlic simmer in the hot oil for a minute. Cool the oil. Take the garlic clove and squeeze it into the ear so that the oil drops directly into the canal. Use the garlic oil three or four times till the infection clears up.
It is important to have a well functioning immune system in order to prevent infections. The major part of the immune system is linked to the digestive tract so it is essential to support it with healthy bacteria which help one to recover from infections very quickly.
Curd is full of probiotics which supply the digestive tract with beneficial bacteria in large quantities. Eat a cup of homemade curd with every meal.
You should use fermented cod liver oil because it contains true vitamin A. Vitamin A is necessary to keep the clearing mechanism of the ear intact and in good functioning order. Vitamin A can reduce the intensity of the infection and prevent complications.
It also combats the germs and restrains their activity. Take one teaspoon of fermented cod liver oil twice daily.
Basil has powerful anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial properties which not only provide relief in the pain and inflammation but also eradicate the germs swiftly and facilitate the drainage of excess fluid.
Take some basil essential oil and with the help of a dropper, put two drops of the oil into both the ears. Use the drops twice daily till the infection has subsided.
Take some eucalyptus oil and massage the outside of the ear, jaw and neck area with it for five minutes. Apply a gentle pressure in front of the ear toward the cheek and massage in a downward direction. The antimicrobial properties of eucalyptus oil will cure the infection within a short time.
