Pterygium is a benign non-cancerous growth of tissue in the area of eyes called conjunctiva. Conjunctiva is the white area of the eye and this growth is often found on the white side which is closest to the nose. The usual symptoms reported in this condition are itchiness, redness of the eye and blurring vision.In some cases you may also experience excessive water as there is a sensation as if a foreign object has lodged in the eye. It is believed to be caused by excessive exposure to sun and wind. That is why it is also known as surfer’s eye syndrome.The genetics of a person may also be partly at fault. Medically, administration of medicines and in some cases surgery including transplant of membrane can be an option. However, in the very early stages you may try out some herbal remedies and see if they work for you.
Fennel seeds are known to have a positive effect on the inflammation and irritation in the eyes. it also helps in strengthening the eye sight. If suffering from Pterygium then prepare a fennel eye wash for relief. Crush a handful of fennel seeds and boil them in the water. After boiling for 2-3 minutes, strain it through a muslin cloth. The purpose should be that none of the fennel particles should be found in the water. Use this water to wash your eyes at least 3-4 times in a day.

Strain it and cool it down to the room temperature.Use this water as an eyewash for an instant relief. It will make your eyes feel fresh and relieved from the irritation caused by the growth in the eye.
Aloe Vera is a gentle and a mild herb with an arsenal of anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. The dryness and itching along with burning sensation reported by many persons suffering from Pterygium can be alleviated with the help of aloe Vera juice. It is better to use fresh Aloe Vera leaf instead of over the counter products made up of it.Apply 2-3 drops of this herb in each of the eye to reduce redness. Repeat it 3-4 times in a day for relief. Remember these remedies are for the earlier stages of onset of Pterygium. If you do not find any improvement in 2-3 days then get to your doctor for medicinal relieves.
