Share

Our nails are the mirrors of our body. It is our nails that give us the first hints that all is not alright within us be it anaemia or just infection. Yellow nails are often related to jaundice but nails can turn yellow when we do not take good care of them.

Nail care is actually very simple. You do not need to spend a lot of money on manicures and pedicures unless and until you want to have that special manicure or pedicure done. It is also a fact that not everyone can afford the luxury of manicures and pedicures and have to depend on simpler methods to make their nails look beautiful. Here are some simple home remedies to help you treat yellow nails.

Effective Home Remedies For Yellow Nails

Apple Cider Vinegar

A mix of apple cider and warm water can be used to treat fungal infection that causes yellow nails. You only need to soak the affected nails, be it your fingers or your toes, into the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes and wipe them out dry using a soft towel. This not only reduces the yellow pigmentation but also prevents in the nails from becoming brittle and rough.

Baking Soda

Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide mix is an easy mixture to make. You will find baking soda in any grocery store and Hydrogen Peroxide at any chemist’s shop. You need to add a little water to make a fine paste of the two elements.

Apply the paste on the affected nails and wash them off after half an hour. Applying this paste once a day for a week will not only reduce the pigmentation but also the infection that is causing your nails to look yellow.

Juniper Berries

Juniper berries are a good remedy for yellow nails. Crush the juniper berries into a fine paste and add a tablespoon of it to warm water. Soak the affected nails in the water until they soften and wash them with cold water. This will reduce the pigmentation effectively.

Essential Oils

There are three types of oils that can be used for treating yellow nails at home. Firstly, tea tree oil, secondly lavender oil and thirdly olive oil. They need to be used as a combination. You can combine tea tree oil either with lavender oil or olive oil. Apply the combination oil on the yellow nails and wash them off after half an hour. You can also apply the oils before going to bed and wash them off when you wake up.

Lemon

Lemon is possibly the easiest and the simplest remedy for yellow nails. A lemon can be used in two ways to treat yellow nails. You can either rub the lemon directly on to the affected nails or mix lemon juice to warm water and soak your nails in the mixture. Lemon is a very effective whitening agent. Make sure you do not have any cuts or bruises around the affected nails.

To improve the quality of your nails include yogurt (curd) fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. They moisturise the skin from within and increase the body’s resistance towards unwanted infections.

Remember, you do not need an appointment to keep your nails healthy and beautiful. It is now time to flaunt those gorgeous nails!
