Bruises are very common conditions that take place when you get hurt and the blood vessels break near the surface of the skin. It causes bleeding and pain. Sometimes when the blood does not flow out in the surrounding tissues, it gets clotted and lead to blue and black marks on the affected area.These bruises are known to heal naturally over a period of time. Some bruises may heal as soon as three to four days whereas others may need a couple of weeks to show signs of improvement. There are several home remedies such as vinegar, raw onion, tea and Vaseline to heal the bruises.However, if the skin is broken, you may not want to use vinegar to raw onion on the bruises and rather apply ice and compression to control the bleeding and other discomforts.

Effective Home Remedies For Bruises

Apply Ice

Applying ice is one of the most effective home remedies that helps heal the bruises. It cools the blood vessels that get hurt around the affected area and slows down the bleeding.You can either take the ice cubes and wrap it in a towel or any thick cloth and apply it on the bruised area or buy any flexible ice pack that is available in the market. Keep it on the bruised area at least for over 10 minutes to feel some relief.

Elastic Bandage

Immediately wash and wrap a bandage on the bruised area as it prevents the bruise from getting infected. Also, the elastic bandage squeezes the tissues and reduces and stops the bleeding. Make sure the bandage is a good quality bandage and is wrapped properly covering the entire bruised area.

Turn Up The Heat

You can also use a heating pad to heat up the bruise as it helps in clearing away the blood clot. If you are using an electric heating pad, then it is recommended that you use it to heat the bruise for about 20 minutes many times per day till it improves.Make sure you read, understand and follow all the instructions mentioned on the heating pad carefully before using it. Instead you can even use a warm compress. You can even use a hot water bag or bottle to apply heat on or under the bruised area.

Raw Onion

Applying some slices of raw onion on the bruised area helps in healing bruises faster. This home remedy suits those bruises that do not involve skin breakage.

Tea

Tea helps in reducing the pain caused by bruises and lessen the bruise marks. Just soak a piece of cloth in the comfrey tea and apply it on the skin.

Vinegar

Vinegar is one of the best home remedies for treating bruises that do not cut the skin. Mix few drops of apple cider or apple vinegar with lukewarm water and soak a cotton ball in it.Then apply the vinegar soaked cotton ball generously on the bruised skin for about an hour. This increases the flow of blood around the affected surface that in turn helps to dissolve the blood that often pools in the bruised part of the body.
