Pancreatitis is a severe medical condition in which the pancreas tends to get swollen and causes a lot of abdominal pain. This problem occurs when the pancreatic enzymes responsible for digesting the food get active in the pancreas instead of being active in the small intestine.

A person suffering from this ailment may need immediate hospitalization and treatment during the pancreatitis attack. This ailment may be acute for a couple days in the beginning but could turn chronic over a period of few years.

Pancreatitis has a lot of symptoms such as internal bleeding, severe upper abdominal pain, fatigue, sudden weight loss, fever and nausea. A person with mild pancreatitis may get cured even without any medical treatment but cases of acute pancreatitis may become life-threatening.

Acute Abdominal Pain

This is one of the main symptoms of Pancreatitis. In this ailment, most of the patients suffer from constant pain in the upper portion of the abdomen, which usually spreads towards the back. This pain can be disabling for a lot of Pancreatitis patients.

The abdomen pain can occur suddenly or increase gradually over a period of time. In case the pain occurs suddenly, it is mostly very severe. However, if the abdomen pain increases gradually, it is likely to start slowly but it may become severe over a couple of hours or days.

Nausea

You may also observe nausea in people suffering from Pancreatitis. It is a very unpleasant feeling that initiates in the stomach or throat and often results in vomiting. The content in the stomach are forcibly expelled out of the mouth. Nausea is a reflux that is triggered by the signal from your brain that controls other functions too.

Fever

You may also experience fever in Pancreatitis. It may begin as mild fever but could rise to high temperatures.

Internal Bleeding

Internal bleeding is one of the most dangerous symptoms of Pancreatitis. Many times a person with Pancreatitis may experience internal bleeding but could fail to understand the real reason behind it. Though internal bleeding could occur due to a number of reasons, it is important to consult a doctor as soon as you realize about this symptom. This problem could become fatal when left untreated as it could cause various infections.

Weight Loss

Sudden involuntary weight loss is also one of the main symptoms of Pancreatitis. This symptom often results from the poor absorption or malabsorption of food. This problem occurs mainly because the responsible gland fails to secrete enough enzymes, which is normally used to break down the food.

Fatigue

Fatigue is also a common symptom of Pancreatitis that may be found in many other ailments as well. Nausea and internal bleeding often leads to fatigue. You may begin to feel sick due to loss of energy in the body. If you observe any other Pancreatitis symptom along with fatigue, consult your doctor immediately.
