5 Home Remedies For Stuttering

Stuttering

Stuttering or stammering is a speech problem which affects children and adults. Most of the time people stutter when they are nervous or anxious. Stuttering can be recognized by repeating certain words or sounds, prolongation of some words or the inability to pronounce some words. In case of stuttering individuals, it seems like speech is forced out of them.

Speech lacks fluency and may sound jerky. Stammering is not just a speech problem, but it could hamper a person’s self-esteem as well as communication skills. Adults who suffer from stammering tend to become introverts and avoid social gatherings so that they don’t feel embarrassed about their stammering. Speech therapy is the best way to conquer stammering but most people suffer from anxiety stammering rather than pathologic stammering. Here are some ways in which you can get over stuttering:

Take a thin and clean muslin cloth and ask your child to stick out the tongue. Hold the tip of the tongue with the cloth and pull it gently. Don’t pull it harshly as this will hurt the child. A small jerk is enough once a day. Make sure you are practicing this at least for 6 months. But stop this if you feel that the child is uncomfortable.

Gooseberry

Most often, people stammer and stutter when they are tensed or stressed. Relaxation and deep breathing is a good way of reducing instances of stuttering. Relaxation refers to relaxing both the body and mind. Deep breathing exercises can help in relaxing the mind. You can relax your body by relaxing your shoulders, stretching your back and removing any tension held up in your joints.

Take a minute to do this and you will notice that stuttering reduces. Another way to reduce stress and make your mind more calm is to practice yoga regularly. Another exercise to reduce stuttering is to fold your elbows and bringing your fingers to the armpits. Then breathe deeply as much as you can, starting with 3 repetitions and increasingly gradually.
