Sticking with a Healthy Diet

The reason that most people fail to follow a healthy diet is because they do not know how to add variety to the foods they are eating. They become bored with the same foods over and over again and slowly start backsliding to unhealthy food options. Another problem most people face when eating a healthy diet is the cost of the foods and limited amount of time fresh foods last. For some people it is difficult to only plan out a few days worth of meals at a time and is easier to plan the entire week and stock up on unhealthy options instead.

Cravings

Another issue that comes up with people that are attempting a healthy diet is cravings for certain foods that are not very healthy. It is important to not ignore your cravings. If you do, when you finally break down and indulge in the craving you will eat an excessive amount of the food. If you have a craving for a hamburger and French fries from a fast food restaurant, go ahead and get the smallest burger and smallest order of French fries available. Ask for no mayonnaise on the burger and for no salt on the fries. If you crave your favorite cookies or a bowl of ice cream, eat it, but follow the recommended serving size on the package. If the serving size is four cookies or ¼ cup of ice cream, then only eat that amount.

Use Herbs and Spices

Using fresh herbs and spices to add flavor to vegetables and lean cuts of meat can make your healthy diet foods interesting again. Vary the herbs and spices so that you do not end up using the same ones for every meal.

Vary Your Meal Selections

Having the same foods at every meal, every day grows old quickly. Vary your meals by changing what you eat every day. You can rotate through chicken, fish, and turkey. Or you can skip meat for a few meals. There are plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to select a different one each day. Experiment with different combinations to keep your meals exciting while you follow a healthy diet.
