Treating physical and emotional fatigue with aromatherapy may be an entirely new idea to you but using fragrance to keep workers alert is an accepted practice in many countries around the world.A Russian professor of biology has developed a machine that sends out hot puffs of pine, cedar, rose and other odors designed to keep train conductors safely awake during their long hauls. Two airlines have developed special bath oil products whose floral fragrances are designed to reduce the fatigue of jet lag.
Atomizers
Workers at some large corporations in Japan have aromatherapy delivered through the air conditioning systems in their workplaces. Lemon might be used first thing in the morning as a wake-up. Rose might circulate all morning and after lunch the invigorating scent of cypress would waft into the offices. The Tokyo Stock Exchange uses aromatherapy. Some phone booths have atomizers that send out mists of relaxing fragrances.
Aromatherapy
The scents which have been studied and found to act as stimulants to fight fatigue are numerous. These scents work differently than adrenal stimulants like caffeine. Using aromatherapy you can reduce physiological stress, boredom, drowsiness, irritability and fatigue.
Some fragrances that have been identified as stimulating are peppermint, eucalyptus, clove, ylang-ylang, jasmine, cinnamon, basil, rose, lemon and sage.
Essential Oils and How to Use Them
These oils are very strong and should not be used on the skin directly. They should be diluted in a vegetable oil and then a small amount can be massaged into the skin. With so many scents to choose from you should be able to mix a formula that you find agreeable. For the best effect, the fragrance should be very light and almost unnoticeable. It is best to mix a few harmonious scents together instead of one main ingredient. For fatigue relief, massage a small amount of the oil into each wrist at the pulse point. The fragrance will be activated by the heat of your body.
