3 Best Herbal Treatments for Hives

Hives can be caused by several factors, such as stress or an allergy. When hives occur your skin becomes itchy and bumps will begin to appear on the infected area. Sometimes hives will cause your tongue to swell.

Hives

Whatever reasons your hives appeared there are many herbal treatments you can try to bring relief from the itching as well as get rid of them.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal can be used in a variety of ways to treat hives. Take a few cups of oatmeal and sprinkle it into a tub of warm bath water. Soak in this water for about twenty minutes. The oatmeal will relieve the itching as well as help to shrink the hives. You can also make a paste with the oatmeal by adding some hot water and little bit of cornstarch. The mixture should not be too thick or too runny. Start off with about ½ a cup of oatmeal and add 1/8 of a cup of hot water and add about a teaspoon of corn starch. Continue to add a few drops of hot water and mix until the consistency is paste. Spread the paste on your skin where the hives are and leave on until it dries completely. Now use cool water to wash off the paste. You can repeat either method as much as needed until the hives are gone.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Another herbal treatment is to use grapefruit seed extract. You can get this herb from a health food store. Mix about a ¼ teaspoon of the extract with about a tablespoon of olive oil. Dip cotton balls into the mixture and dab on the affected areas of the skin. Allow to dry completely. You can repeat this as much as needed to bring relief from the hives. Or you can use the oatmeal paste with this method after the extract oil mixture has dried.
