A sinus headache hurts, but you do not have to just sit there and take the pain. There are many natural remedies and treatments available. Some of them are so simple, and free, and other methods are cheap, affordable and provide you with relief. The simplest thing to do is drink more water and plenty of it. This helps hydrate your sinuses, and rids your body of toxins that could lead to infections.
If you are having trouble breathing when you lie down at night, add a couple more pillows under your head to elevate your upper body in a more upward position. This can help the sinuses to open up a little, making it a bit easier to breath and relieving pressure and pain. Make yourself a cup of hot tea and sip on it. Any kind you like is fine, whether it is green tea, black tea, or herbal tea. The hot temperature of the liquid will help hydrate and sooth your sinuses. Peppermint tea works well, not only does it sooth your insides, but it can help relieve the headache from the aromas it gives off.
You can purchase a small bottle of essential oil in peppermint, lavender or eucalyptus, from you local health food store. Keep this in your purse or in your drawer at work, and when you start to feel a sinus headache starting, or even in the midst of one, rub a drop or two of the oil on the sides of your head close to your face in the area known as the temples. Be careful to not get too close to your eyes though. The aroma of the oil as well as the absorption of the oil through your skin on these pressure points can provide almost instant relief from pain and pressure, and the smell can also help open your sinuses.
If you are able to, lie down with your head elevated and take a nap or just rest you eyes in a quiet dark room. This actually helps all types of headaches, but for sinus headaches this will help relieve some pressure, allow your sinuses to drain, and hopefully get rid of the headache.
