5 Different Treatments For Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Also known as acne inversa, it is a skin disease that presents itself in the form of lesions, abscesses and at times, pus filled sacs in the areas like underarms, buttocks and groin. These regions harbour Apocrine sweat glands as well and therefore this infection is associated with these glands. Apocrine glands get clogged by dead skin and cells in this condition.

The lesions, sacs caused by this skin disease are very painful and cause inflammation. The ones filled with pus can also create wounds after rupturing. The exact reason and causes of this condition are not known.

However, excessive sweat, tight clothing, continuous friction in one particular area and humidity coupled with heat seem to deteriorate this condition. There are many treatments available for this disease ranging from over the counter ointments to radiation therapy in extreme cases. You can help yourself with this disease and control its symptoms.

Dry The Area

Sweat and remnant water after taking bath are a major culprit that worsen this skin disease. After the bath, pat dry the affected areas. Apply mild medicated powder so that any sweat produced is soaked immediately. If you have lesions around the genital area and suffer from discharge then wearing panty liners may help.

Alternatively, you can change your undergarments frequently. After passing urine, dry the area out with the help of tissue paper. Keeping the affected area dry is the first step towards treating this condition.

Tea Tree Oil with Coconut Oil

Tea tree oil is a known anti-fungal and antibiotic herb. Various experiments have found it to be useful against the Hidradenitis Suppurativa. However, tea tree oil in its pure form can cause pinching sensation on the skin. You must use it in its diluted form. Use coconut oil for diluting. Take equal parts tea tree oil and coconut oil.

Coconut oil contains lauric acid and is  cooling on the skin. It will soothe the lesions while tea tree oil heals them. Apply both of them generously and allow them to dry before you cover them with clothes. Remember to just dab the lesions with the oil and not rub it as that may rupture the sacs and cause tremendous pain and discomfort.

Either consume it by mixing a spoonful in the warm milk and have twice a day. Or just add some turmeric to the aforementioned oil solution and apply directly on the sacs, wounds and lesions.

Turmeric will also dry and settle abscesses. However, be ready for the yellow stains on your clothes caused by turmeric. You can layer up the clothing or apply turmeric when at home for a few hours and then wash off.

Fish oil, salmon, tuna, flax seeds and walnuts are high on Omega3 fats. The consumption of these fats has been found to be helpful in combating this debilitating condition. It reduces the inflammation and replaces saturated fats which increase the inflammation in the body.

Apart from these, you can increase the portion of anti-inflammatory food items like green tea, papaya, broccoli and sweet potato in your diet. This diet will discourage the pain and swelling caused by this condition.
