Often men are not associated with skin care issues; this is a general trend world over. Skin care is thought of a beauty regime and people link beauty with women only. The only skin care men are concerned with is limited to daily shaving of their face and bathing. But one should know that caring for men’s skin care is as important as for women. Skin is the defence mechanism for the body; it protects body from attack of various microorganisms present all the time around us.
Men’s skin also loses its elasticity as they get older. There are many factors like environmental pollutions, sunrays, lack of diet or lack of cleansing of skin which take toll on their skin. They cause wrinkles, dryness and fine lines. This makes men’s skin care extremely important; it is not a beauty regime rather skin care is the part of health care regime.
There are many skin care products available in the market specially designed for men’s skin. You can use good quality readymade products or you can also take the help of some easy and effective homemade natural products. The basic thing is to follow a regular routine for skin care with positive attitude.
First thing which stops men to take care of their skin is their busy schedule and lack of time. But the fact is taking care of skin does not consume much of their time from their busy day. They just have to include that in their basic routine. Regular use of proper skin care products chosen according to their skin type will make all the difference. Another thing which is a major hindrance is their hesitation as the most of the people think it as a women’s issue. But trust me, skin care is not an only women’s issue.
Do not wash your face with soaps having harsh chemicals instead wash with mild soaps containing natural extracts like neem, aloe vera or turmeric. Rinse with cold water. Also you should wash your face with lukewarm water once or twice a week using a cleanser which suits your skin. Cleanser is applied in clockwise motion to deep cleanse the skin pores. Do not scrub hard with towel to dry your face, rather pat dry it. After that, do not forget to apply some mild moisturiser. Men also need to follow basic skin care steps; cleansing, toning and moisturising to keep it healthy.
Another important aspect of skin care is to protect it from harmful and damaging sun rays. Apply some kind of sunscreen lotion and wear breathable cotton clothes, sunglasses to act as barrier to sunrays. Sunscreen lotion should have minimum SPF 15. Excessive Sun exposure can lead to wrinkles and even skin cancer.
If you have an oily skin, go for an oil-free cleanser which gently cleans the skin without causing further irritation and breakouts. After cleansing, apply an alcohol-free toner to maintain the acid/alkali balance of the skin. It makes the skin cool and rejuvenated.
Men’s skin becomes rough and hard because of daily shaving with razor. This makes exfoliation for men very important; they can use exfoliating products like loofah, sea sponge and scrubs. Scrub the hardened rough skin from knees, elbows and heels. Do not use the same scrub for the skin of face. Use a milder exfoliating agent for the face skin.
For men’s skin care, use a cleanser or moisturiser with AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) like lactic acid or glycolic acid. These acids help to maintain and improve the skin tone and texture.
Before shaving, men should steam their face to open up the hair follicles. After shave splash cold water over to close the pores. They can apply an aloe Vera face moisturiser.
