While going for shave, make the skin wet and moist. Do not shave your skin while it is dry because it will create lot of friction between skin and razor and it will burn the skin; it will create red rashes all over cheeks and chin. Another advantage of making skin moist is that it will soften the hair and opens up the pores. It will make shaving easier. Just before shaving, splash lukewarm water on your face.
Before you shave, it is mandatory to apply a moisturiser. Apply some kind of mild and creamy foam or lotion to soften the hair. You can apply a lotion having aloe vera gel. For proper application of cream, apply by dabbing it and massaging it to make lather. It will prevent hair from drying.
Caution: Avoid using shaving products which contain things like benzocaine or menthol. They can make the facial skin dry and irritated and also stiffen the beard by closing the pores.
Sharp Razor: First make sure that razor is not old and blunt. Blunt razors spoil shaving and make cuts and bruises over the skin. Blunt razors rub and tear the skin and create rashes later. Choose a razor with heavier handle as it gives greater control.
Use lukewarm water during shaving to keep the hairs soft.
Remember this important rule that shave hairs in direction of their growth as it gives smoother re - growth. It prevents formation of ingrown hair.
But for special occasions, you can shave your face in two steps; first shave as told above and then re-lather and shave hair in opposite direction of growth. It gives closer shaving.
Do not apply extra pressure over the razor; it can rub and bruise the skin. Use only small strokes to shave as longer strokes do not give cleaner shave. Before each stroke, rinse the razor in lukewarm water so that it can glide easily over the skin.
Caution: Never share a razor; it can spread infection, if there is any.
After you have completed shaving, splash cold water on your face; it shuts the skin pores. Then use a skin toner or astringent to remove any residue of shaving cream and also tightens the skin by closing pores. If you have some cuts on your skin, to stop bleeding, apply a wet alum piece. Then apply a moisturising after shave lotion. But do not use alcohol based lotions; they have drying effect on the skin.
Then apply natural, herbal moisturiser and a sunscreen lotion to protect the skin from harmful UV radiations of sunrays.
While you get up in the morning, do not just stand in front of mirror for shaving; let your skin and face to be active, fresh and its puffiness to settle down.
Make sure to keep lukewarm water in a mug and mix it with an anti-sceptic lotion. Use this water to rinse your razor after making a stroke.
Towel or wash cloth, you use for drying your face after shave should be made up of cotton.
Avoid blades of razor to come into contact of air otherwise they will get rusted.
