Skin diet means eating food products which contain all the vitamins, nutrients and minerals needed by the skin to stay healthy and glowing. Skin is a very delicate organ of your body which needs pampering and proper care for being healthy. Skin looses its elasticity if not treated properly and wrinkles and fine lines appear on it. A beautiful skin is the most important asset of beautiful women. Without proper skin diet, no skin care routine will give you positive results. Skin should be nourished from inside.


A glowing skin is the outcome of good nutrition. You skin needs various vitamins to fulfill its requirements. Skin has to combat with daily wear and tear. A firm, glowing and clear skin is said to be the ideal one. Lack of any essential vitamin or nutrient, makes the skin dull and unappealing.

Essential vitamins for skin are A, C and E. Vitamin A is very important to fight roughness and dryness of skin. Vitamin A also prevents the production of extra sebum. You can get vitamin A from almonds, peaches, carrots and sweet potatoes. Vitamin A should be in optimum amount.


Vitamin C helps to make skin collagen and also fights free radicals which are harmful for skin. It also enables the skin to combat the harmful effect of sunrays. Collagen is the skin protein which makes skin firm. Vitamin E contains the antioxidants which is important for skin to protect it against harmful free radicals.


Vitamin D, which is present in sunlight and certain foods like vegetable margarine and cereals, helps to absorb calcium and also has antioxidant property. You should eat fiber rich foods to increase the glow on your skin. Cell wall component of plants make fiber of food. You can get fiber from vegetable, nuts, citrus fruits, whole grains and legumes.


Biotin and Selenium are good for skin. You can get biotin from oatmeal, rice, eggs and banana. Selenium helps to reduce the damage done by free radicals and hence effective in controlling sun damage to skin.


Protein is another nutrient which is required by the skin to repair and maintain it. Protein helps skin to rejuvenate. Protein is essential part of production and growth of new skin cells. You can get protein from dairy products, poultry, fish and meat. Protein from these sources contains the essential amino acids required by the skin to repair it.


Zinc should be the essential part of your skin diet. Vitamin C helps skin to produce collagen in presence of zinc. For tissue building, a combination of vitamin A and zinc is must. Deficiency of zinc can cause dermatitis.


Drinking plenty of water is part of your healthy skin diet. Water hydrates the skin and keeps it moisturized. Lack of water makes the skin dull and wrinkled. Water helps to flush toxins and waste out of body. Try having different other fluids also like fruit juices, soups, milk, coconut water and many other healthy drinks. All of them help to keep the body hydrated.


Useful Tips for Healthy Skin diet:

Out of large variety of pulses, beans and nuts, you can have some daily in your meal. You can add them to pasta sauces, curries and soups. Beans are rich source of iron and protein.


Grains and nuts contain certain proteins and vital fats. You should plan your meals to include some of them daily.


People who are strictly vegetarian should include whole grains, milk, beans, sprouts, and cheese and soya bean in their skin diet. Prepare fresh cheese from milk which is good source of protein.


Do not forget to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.


Whatever you eat will show on your skin. Skin is very sensitive to changes. You have to choose your food sensibly keeping skin in your mind. Avoid having junk food, aerated drinks, excess of caffeine, alcohol.


People with oily skin, should avoid eating foods having high oil content in them. They should avoid fried food, creamy sauces, olives and some more foods like that. Rather eat fresh fruits and vegetables.


If you have dry skin, try swallowing one tablespoon of mineral oil daily. Eating foods like avocado will also help to combat dryness.


Include green leafy vegetables in your skin diet. It contains anti oxidant which help control premature aging.


Do not over cook your food items as they loose vital nutrients because of excess heating.
