What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism spectrum is a fairly common disorder. In recent years the number of diagnoses have increased greatly. Since there is no known cause, the reason for the increase is also unknown. Autism spectrum is a neural developmental disorder that can effect many aspects of a person’s life.

Autism spectrum generally effects the social and communication skills. A person with autism spectrum will react differently in social situations than a person without it. Lack of affection and attention is one characteristic of autism spectrum. Also, a person with the disorder will not use eye contact and may have sensitivity to light and touch. Repetitive motion is also a common symptom. An autistic person will likely use repetitive hand flapping, spinning or rocking. Routines and rituals are also common characteristics of people with autism spectrum. They will have certain things that are done at certain times and if it is disrupted, they may become frustrated and disturbed. Organization is also a characteristic. If a child with autism finds a toy out of place, you may notice them becoming angry and frustrated. This is caused from the decreased development in the brain.

Looking for autism spectrum signs is the best way to diagnose it. Symptoms can start at the young age of six months, or they may not arise until the child is four years old. If your child has not started some form of communication by the age of twelve months, you should have the doctor test for the disorder. Diagnosing autism spectrum at a young age will help keep the symptoms to a minimum and the child can live a normal life.

Autism spectrum has no know cause. There are many known factors that can contribute to the disorder, but this can be a controversial topic. Genetics, environmental conditions, food allergies, immune deficiencies and poor nutrition have all been linked to autism spectrum, but have not been proven as the cause. Bad parenting and vaccines are also things that have been brought up when the topic of autism causes arises. These are the most controversial causes and have not been proven or disproved.
