Endometriosis is a painful medical condition in which the tissue lining the endometrium tends to grow outside the uterus. It affects ovaries, tissue lining the pelvis and bowel. In this condition, the displaced endometrial tissue acts normally like it continues to thicken, break down and bleed with every menstrual cycle.
But, since this tissue does not have any exit, it remains trapped. This causes discomfort to the surrounding tissue and develops adhesions and scar tissue. The whole process causes a lot of pain, mostly during the menstrual cycle but sometimes it also causes pain before periods as well.
It may also cause infertility. The primary symptoms of endometriosis include pelvic pain during periods, pain during sexual intercourse, bowel problems, excessive bleeding and pain during urination and bowel movements.
Different Symptoms of Endometriosis
Pain Associated With Menstrual Cycle
In this medical condition, you may notice excessive pain before and during menstrual cycle, making it the main symptom of Endometriosis. Though almost 20% of women suffer from this problem, a lot of women may not understand this symptom at all.
It is important to gauge how much pain is normal for you and what is considered to be an abnormal pain during or before periods. If you notice that the menstrual pain is increasing beyond control, then it may be a strong symptom of endometriosis and may require medical help.
Pain Associated With Sexual Intercourse
Extreme pain while having sexual intercourse is considered to be a common symptom of Endometriosis. In addition, some people may experience pain after having sex as well. Though, it may be a sign of some sexually transmitted disease as well, it is always wise to consult a doctor.
Excessive Bleeding
Some women experience excessive bleeding during periods. It may be normal for some women, but if you think that you are bleeding more than regular then you should check if you are also experiencing other symptoms of this medical condition.
If you notice that you are experiencing two or more symptoms of Endometriosis, then you may get alert and check with the doctor immediately, as ignoring this problem may lead to serious complication in life.
