Comtrex is a drug that provides relief from the symptoms of common cold. It contains acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan and Pseudoephedrine as its key components. Acetaminophen helps to reduce pain and decreases body temperature in case of high fever. Dextromethorphan compound has suppressant effects on cough reflexes.
It acts on the signals of the brain responsible for producing cough reflexes. Pseudoephedrine acts as a decongestant. It shrinks the blood vessels reducing the flow of blood to swollen areas. Constriction decreases swelling and facilitates the opening up of the respiratory and nasal passages.

Comtrex will not have a positive effect on symptoms of cough produced by smoking complications.
Check For Allergies

Review The Medical Conditions Under Which The Drug Cannot Be Used
Comtrex medication should not be used in cases where the individual is already using MAO inhibitors like furazolidone (Furoxone), phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), rasagiline (Azilect), tranylcypromine (Parnate) or selegiline that is available in the form of Eldepryl, Zelapar and Emsam.
Ensure that these medications have not been taken during the last two weeks before starting on a course of Comtrex. There are some sleeping pills that contain some part of the components of Comtrex. Take the advice of your general physician before adding further dosage of the components. Overdose causes liver damage.
Check The Age Limit
Comtrex directions indicate that the component should not be prescribed to children below four years. Misuse of the drug on young kids might become fatal. The drug is also prohibited for use for pregnant mothers or those who continue breast feeding.
Avoid Intake Of Narcotics
Intake of narcotics and alcoholic beverages while on a course of Comtrex increases the chances of liver damage.

Dosage
Comtrex should be taken only under medical advice. In general, two daytime capsules taken once in four hour intervals provide relief from cough and cold. Taking more than 8 capsules will have severe effects on the liver.
The daytime capsules of Comtrex should not be taken before 4 hours of bed time. Maintain the above mentioned gap before taking 2 nighttime capsules. Intake of more than four capsules within twenty four hours can be injurious to health.
Discontinue In Case Of Side Effects
If you experience side effects like dizziness, headache, nausea, anxiety, or increased heart beat, stop continuing with the medication and consult your local physician for further action. Finally, as in case of other medications, check for the manufacturing and expiry date of the product before purchasing.
