Use Home Remedies to Fight Emphysema

When emphysema symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, chronic cough and fatigue start to interfere with your daily activities it is time to fight back with home remedies.  Emphysema is a disease that weakens a person due to loss of lung capacity.  The body does not get enough oxygen in the blood due to damaged air sacs in the lungs.  This damage cannot be reversed.

Emphysema can make other diseases like diabetes and heart disease worse.  At the first diagnosis of emphysema you must take action to prevent further deterioration of the lungs. Make a plan to build up your strength and your lung capacity.

If you smoke, you must quit.  Smoking is the leading cause of emphysema.  Begin supplementing with a B complex vitamin to replace what is lost when you smoke.

Start an exercise plan that includes walking for 30 minutes a day five days a week.  If you can’t manage 30 minutes of walking at a time, break it up into three 10 minute walks per day.  Use abdominal breathing and breathe through your nose whenever possible.  With emphysema, you must use your lungs to keep from losing capacity.

A healthy diet that includes a variety of  fruits and vegetables and lean protein helps to increase your strength and health.  One important addition to your diet can help fight emphysema in many surprising ways.

The Benefits of Garlic

The essential oil in garlic has antimicrobial properties. It is a decongestant and tones the heart and circulatory system.  Cooking destroys many of these desirable properties but not many people can handle eating enough raw garlic for a daily therapeutic dose of 1,800 mg.  The oil in garlic leaves the body through the lungs which is ideal for health but not so great for sweet breath.

Garlic extract in capsules are much easier to take than swallowing the raw cloves of garlic.  A daily dose of 600 to 1,000 mg. of garlic extract is recommended to help fight emphysema symptoms and strengthen the lungs.  Most of these extracts in capsule form do not cause offensive odor either in the breath or in body sweat.
