Eyes are one of the five sense organs of our body. Eyes are our windows to the world and are the most precious gift given to us by God. It becomes our duty to take care of this beautiful gift by Almighty. With eyes only we can relish all the beauty of this world.
With eyes we can see all our loved ones. Eyes are the most attractive feature on our face. Eyes speak louder than words; eyes are the most expressive feature. What we cannot say with words, is said with eyes. Taking care of eyes is not only for beauty but it is part of our health regime.
The first and basic care you can have for your eyes is to keep them clean. Eyes can be kept clean by washing them regularly with clean and safe water which you use for drinking. You have to keep your whole body clean like if you have constipation, eyes will become dirty and muddy. If you drink inadequate water, your eyes will appear yellow and remain no longer white. If your body is lacking sweating proper sweating mechanism, there will be accumulation of toxins in body and dark circles surround eyes which give ugly look.
For keeping eyes healthy, you should work towards the health of your whole body. You should have healthy diet which includes all the essential vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A. Include plenty of green vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts, whole grains, cereals in your diet.
Follow any form of exercising which is important for keeping the body flexible and increases the blood circulation in body. Walking is the best form of exercise which energises and revitalizes the body. Walking improves the quality, quantity and amount of blood circulation.
Our eyes are in action constantly. We spend so much time watching TV, in front of computer screen. Our eyes get tired and it gives rise to eye problem. You can care for your eyes by following some simple measure and a routine.
Medical experts say that while working on computers for long hours, take short breaks in between. For this you can do small exercise by blinking your eyes continuously for several times. Then close your eyes and roll your eyeballs clockwise and anticlockwise with a deep breath. While releasing your breath, slowly open your eyes. Repeat this exercise 3 times.
While working at a stretch for long, try to look away at distant objects. It helps your eye muscles to relax and then they will focus better.
Keep the computer screen at about arm’s length and at 20 degrees below eye level.
Try to use diffuse lights rather than direct lights to reduce the glare and reflection.
When your eyes are tired, rub your palms until they are warm. Now place palms by cupping them over your eyes for 60 seconds to relax and soothe them.
Splash water on your face during breaks, keeping eyes closed. It will make eyes fresh.
Use tea bags to reduce puffiness:
Keep two used tea bags in refrigerator to chill them. Then once you return home from office, place these chilled tea bags on your eyes. It will relax your tired eyes and reduce puffiness also.
Triphala is a collection of three herbs which are good for eyes. Soak the triphala powder in water an earthen pot overnight. Strain it in the morning and wash your eyes with them. It soothes and relaxes eyes. It greatly improves eyesight. It reduces tiredness from eyes. Other herbs which are beneficial for eyes are mint, basil, honey and garlic.
Always check the expiry date of eye drops before using them. Try to use antiglare glasses while driving or out in the sun. It will prevent eyes from harmful effect of sunlight. Reduce smoking and alcohol drinking as nicotine and alcohol are toxins for nerves. They cause irreversible damage to optic nerves.
