NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR DRY SKIN
Bookmark and Share

Dry skin refers to the situation when less oil is produced by the oil glands. It is the main problem during winters when humidity is less. The areas most affected are the thighs, lower arms, chest, and sides of abdomen, cheeks and the area around the eyes. It makes the skin tight after wash and also causes scaliness and cracks on the skin in severe cases. It is the common condition that affects almost every one.

Causes of Dry Skin
The various causes of dry skin are:
  • Environmental factors like less humidity, cold, use of excess make-up, sun exposure, use of harsh soaps and pollution.
  • Nutrient deficiencies - deficiency of vitamin E, A and B cause dry skin.
  • Skin problems like eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.
  • Less supply of oil by the oil glands to the skin.

Dry skin treatment - Regular exercise will improve the blood circulation and encourages blood flow providing nourishment to the skin.

Alcohol and caffeine should be avoided.

After bathing applying Aloe Vera gel is also effective. This is good dry skin remedy.

Mash half an avocado and mix it with a few drops of fresh lime juice and spread this paste over the cleansed skin. Stay it for fifteen to twenty minutes. Wash the skin alternately both with cold and warm water. This is also effective home remedies for dry skin.

Fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin A and B should be included in the diet.

For washing the face it’s better to use mineral water instead of tap water.

Mix 2-5 tablespoons of raw peanuts with milk and make a fine paste. Add ¼ teaspoon of honey to this paste. Apply this paste on face. Leave this paste to dry. Then wash with cold water. This is another useful natural remedy for dry skin.

#9 - Elle - 10/17/2008 - 02:18
I read the above info and just want a bit of clarification: I have a problem similar to what is stated above about a dry patch of skin on the chin. It appeared about 6 weeks ago and hasn't gone away since. I have used olive oil to no avail and switched to coconut oil, but after a week of that I have seen no change. Can you clarify what you mean about 6 tablespoons of coconut oil and apple cider vinager? Are these to consume or apply topically? Any other words of advice?
#10 - lilly - 11/05/2008 - 20:34

put really hot water in a bowl and put your face over it under a towel and let the evaporated water cover your face and do that for 10 or so minutes, that puts a lot of moisture back into your face...it could get rid of that dry patch of skin on your chin
#12 - rachel - 11/22/2008 - 21:51
:-D
I have a multipurpose solution for skin remedy & viral infections too. I wash 2-3 neem leaves. Crush them. Squeeze 2-3 drops in a spoon. add some water. Take a drpper & drop few drops in throat directly. Do this for a week. Findthe differeance with things. This has helped me time to time.

PEANUT BUTTER! that's all you need, just put plain peanut butter on your dry skin and leave it on for an hour or so - it will sink in. it's amazing, this REALLY works! i found this out by accident. i had extremely dry skin around my mouth/nose/hands. one day i was working on removing sticky residue from furniture using peanut butter, and i got peanut butter all over my hands - and noticed that the next day, they were smooth and soft. so i tried the peanut butter on my face/hands/elbows, and one application of peanut butter left all the areas moist FOR WEEKS. it's very hard to believe that the peanut butter works because it's so simple and cheap - but it REALLY WORKS! try it!!
#18 - Yvonne - 02/02/2009 - 02:13
iv got extremely dry skin from head to toe. When its really bad i crack all over and then have to wait wks 4 the dead skin to come off. I get like a scaley effect all over, especially really bad on legs. This seems worse when im due my period? does anyone know why this is? and what is a good way of removing this dead skin quickly. How can i improve this as its really getting me down.!!!!!
#19 - carlic - 02/02/2009 - 06:20
By soaking your face for 10 minutes in lukewarm water do you mean to say soak a cloth in the water and then leave it on your face for 10 minutes?
#20 - Teddy - 02/04/2009 - 08:49
for long and beutiful eyelashes apply castor oill wid ur finger tips before goin to bed
#21 - nadia - 02/07/2009 - 17:46
Peanut Butter really does work! I wouldn't advise you to use it on spots that tend to already get oily such as your forehead. I now keep a jar in the bathroom and one for the kitchen as well! Just leave it on for an hour or so and let the oils from the peanut butter sink in! It's great try it for your other dry skin areas like your hands!
#22 - Jessica - 02/10/2009 - 12:05
The avocada & Lime juice made me have some weird reaction. and my face turned all red and started to sting
#23 - Shortie - 02/19/2009 - 23:03

Like, some days my whole face is reallyy dry and flaky, but overs its oily, and someeee days, its oily in some spots and dry in others. So if i used a moisturizing one, i wouldnt want to make the oily parts WORSE, so what should i do, and what should i use?
#24 - Jennaaaa - 03/02/2009 - 07:34
I am struggling with very dry skin on my face and hands... I will try the peanut butter... sounds good... Someone suggested an air humidifier if you have central heating.... I have bought one and will wait and see...
#25 - Delilah - 03/04/2009 - 07:31
for dry skin, take some yogurt like a tablespoon or two and put it on the dry areas. it will clear the skin, refreshes it and normalizes it.
#26 - Muskan - 03/10/2009 - 22:00
Peanut butter is stuff you spread on your toast for breakfast. Get it at any western supermarket.
#27 - Dee - 03/31/2009 - 12:31
for my lips, i use petroleum jelly or aquaphor (they're the same thing only aquaphor is thicker) at night and leave it on overnight if it's really dry and chapped. don't lick your lips if it's chapped though, it'll make it worse. but under normal circumstances, i use an ample amount of beeswax. it tastes pretty weird though. it worked for me and i have pretty soft, nice lips if i do say so myself:-D
#28 - annie - 04/03/2009 - 18:08

#33 - qirlly babe. - 04/28/2009 - 19:24
I am having a problem for about 2 weeks now. My face skin looks like when you have a mild allergic reaction to something and you get like a little face rash, plus i am having dry skin and flakes around it, but if you touch it, it has natural oil. I use lotion and face scrubs, but they don't seem to work.. What do you think i should do?:-(
#34 - Kathie - 05/04/2009 - 00:01
:-)This is a good website. i've had really dry flaky skin on my chin for a few days that's getting really annoying, especially since it hasn't happened in about five years. I think i'll try the honey/penut/milk one. I spread honey on the spot last night and it helped Ok. It's not as dry or flaky today.
It's weird tho. When my skin first broke out like this, i was using Dove soap, and i was actually using it recently a bit before i broke out again. I guess the effects are different to everyone. Thanks again for the great site.
#35 - Vege Angel - 05/08/2009 - 03:08
I have extremely sensitive skin. Products like 'simple' is still too harsh for my face, i usually get red, patchy, flaky spots under my eyes when i use harsh face washes. At the moment im using a wash cloth with warm water, and moisturising with olay sensitive. I would pay triple the amount for olay moisturiser. I will definitely try the peanut butter though. Just to restore moisture. Thanks for the tips. :-D
#36 - Aroha - 05/26/2009 - 22:39
My legs are very dry, especially in the winter and even in the summer too, would peanut butter work on legs too??? What kind of Dove soap best works for dry skin on the face?

I have very sensitive skin. When I was growing up the dermatoligist told my mom to use only Dove and a certain wash powder. I am now 29 and haven't use Dove in a while but have decided to go back to using it. I have very dry skin and also prone to breakouts. I have tried product like proactive but for sensitive skin and it helped with the breakpouts but has dried my face out really bad. I am trying the peanut butter on my face, hands and feet now. Hopefully it will work. Will let you know how it does! I love this site though because of the home remedies and that it is natural stuff because my skin is so sensitve.
#55 - Stacey - 09/06/2009 - 22:16

I have extremely severe eczema on my forehead, it looks so red all the time. Its really rough and feels just like sand paper. The skin is always really red and looks wrinkly. I'm only 13 and i feel so embarrassed to go out in public and have to face school everyday. My head is just always really itchy and i pretty much have only half an eyebrow left. I'm allergic to honey as i just tried it the other day and came up with a red puffy face. Can somebody please suggest a really good remedy? I'm going to try the peanut butter tonight. Much thanks :-)
