Dry skin refers to the situation when less oil is produced by the oil glands. It is the main problem during winters when humidity is less. The areas most affected are the thighs, lower arms, chest, and sides of abdomen, cheeks and the area around the eyes. It makes the skin tight after wash and also causes scaliness and cracks on the skin in severe cases. It is the common condition that affects almost every one.
Causes of Dry Skin
The various causes of dry skin are:
- Environmental factors like less humidity, cold, use of excess make-up, sun exposure, use of harsh soaps and pollution.
- Nutrient deficiencies - deficiency of vitamin E, A and B cause dry skin.
- Skin problems like eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.
- Less supply of oil by the oil glands to the skin.

i had really bad acne & i tryed everythinq from clean& clear to proactive & they would just make my skin dry or just worse so i went to the dermatoloqist & he told me dove soap is the best skin cleaner i could use.

It's weird tho. When my skin first broke out like this, i was using Dove soap, and i was actually using it recently a bit before i broke out again.

for a glowing complexion, use any home starch and milk, make a paste and apply your face with it......leave it on until dry then wash it with warm water...you will see ur face glowing and for whiter teeth, use the back of orange peels (the white part)and rab against your teeth in few days you will notice the difference........good luck.
My skin is also very sensitive like most people who have written above. It even reacts to products like 'simple' , but I have always found that baby oil in the bath once a week in winter keeps my skin soft and as Jennifer mentioned putting plain vasoline on your face for an hour or so then washing it off gently before bed always leaves my skin plump and also gives it a nice healthy glow which is nice - not too much vasoline otherwise you'll end up greasy
Thanks to everyone for the ideas they're really great!!
AGAIN, for dry spots anywhere-try vaseline-just leave on for an hour or 2 then gently remove and cleanse, or shower if you put all over your body. No gloves for this...lol. Its very cheap.

1. overexfoliating-
if your skin is dry, DONT EXFOLIATE!!! its a temporary solution to remove the flakes and the top layer of skin, which will actually make it worse
2.dehydration
drink enough water
3. OVERMOISTURIZATION-
if you moisturize your skin too often, your skin will not produce the natural oils like it should
4. product buildup-
if you dont wash your makeup off at night, or are using too much product on your skin, you will clog your pores and again, your skin will not produce oiks
5. overuse of/ harsh Anti-acne products-
unless you have severe acne, which you should see a doctor for, acne should be treated gentley.
6. alchohol- it should be avoided in facial care products totally, but if you must use something with it, if it is one of the first few ingredients, it has too much. it will dry your skin out badly, and then in turn your skin will over compensate with producing excessive oil
your facial routine should consist of:
washing face twice, am and pm
gentle toner
spot pimple treatment
moisturizing eye gel
light moisturizer am, heavier pm
appropriate mask once or twice a week, exfoliate with a gentle scrub (the scrubbing particles should be round ball like spheres, NOT GRAINS!) no more than once a week and professional facial if you can afford it no more than once every month or two
so many people abuse their skin and think they are helping it, i was one for many years, but as a former model and cosmetologist, i have had a great deal of experience with skin, please trust me, dont over exfoliate, dont use alchohol on your skin, dont use products that are too harsh
for extreme moisturizing treatments, (test all of these on a small patch for reaction first) you can use rosewater (soothing) or marigold water, olive oil (as a treatment, should be used before face is washed), cucumber (soothing, but has astringent properties so may sting) avocado (moisturizing but has enzymes that may sting) oatmeal (for itchy skin, it balances the ph), and milk (which the lactic acid gently exfoliates the dead skin cells)
One good way to exfoliate the skin and use baking soda it is all natural and it will get rid of all the dead skin allowing new more healthy skin to come through. Also you may want to change from the regular bar or liquid soap that you have been using to a glycerin soap it is all pure and works great at controlling dry skin. I use a lotion from Avon called Vitamin A+E+C lotion it is very good and does not leave a greasy feel after wards but works wonders on dry skin. Try taking a bath at least a couple times a week over a shower this too will help reduce dry skin. There are many causes and cures you mainly have to find one that works best for you but I have found that by simply switching to a glycerin based soap will do wonders because it is pure and all natural not chemical based.
