Remedy for Hiccups
I know this is strange but to rid hiccups, fill a small glass with tap water and place a paper towel over the opening of the glass. Drink all of the water through the paper towel. It always works for me! :)

I used to hold my breath and drink water. I read laughing out loud cured hiccups... and I laughed so hard, my hiccups disappeared. Go figure?

The napkin over the glass idea is good. Ive been doing it for 30 years. I try to drink as much of the glass, through the napkin as I can with one gulp. Oh yes I also dont take a breath until Im done drinking.

I was at a bar one night and had the hiccups pretty bad, the bartender gave me a slice of lime with bitters on it and told me to suck on it for a minute, sure enough that got rid of em!! Ive done this everytime I get them now, and it seems to work like a charm!!!

This may saound hard but it can be done... Try PLUGGING YOUR EARS AND DRINKING AT THE SAME TIME... WORKS BEST IF DRINKING WATER. Not just a drink either you must drink a lot. If someone is there with you ask them to hold your ears and if not then you can simply get a straw then you can do it by yourself. TRUST ME IT WORKS i havebeen doing this since i was in 4th grade and dow my 5 yr old will tell others to do it!!!!!!

Drop a just lit burning match into a small glass of water. Drink water (not match...lol). Works every time.

Something about inhaling the sulphur and drinking the water simultaneously, I think.

Promise this will work....put a toothpick or something of similar length long-ways inside your mouth so the ends are pushing against your cheeks, then, take about 4 or 5 chugs of water in a row...hiccups gone!
#10 - Derek - 03/26/2008 - 13:33
Several of you have mentioned to plug the ears while drinking. I do this also, and it works. You must plug the ears completely, and drink an entire glass of water very slowly. It's true!!
#11 - Wendy - 04/24/2008 - 01:33
Drink a few tablespoons of dill pickle juice. I've been doing this for 20 years, and it works. I think it's the vinegar. I've heard that some athletes use dill pickle juice for uncontrollable muscle spasms in other parts of the body.

I get the hiccups constantly....not dainty ladylike little hics but loud and embarrassing cases that sound like *HILK* or *HIC-CULLP* Of all the home remedies peanut butter or sugar is the only cure that sometimes work but not guaranteed....otherwise mine just have to run their course.
#13 - Suzanne - 05/21/2008 - 20:16
I take a glass of water and put a napkin over the glass and drink very slowly trying not to break the napkin as it gets wet!!!! It sounds silly but I swear it works every time!!!!!

I have to say. I closed both my ears with ear plugs and drank a glass of water slowly (sips) with a paper towel over the glass. It worked, I can't believe it. And it was only after a couple sips that they went away. I had the hiccups twice today, I wish I knew this trick earlier.
#17 - Stacey - 06/22/2008 - 21:05

My nephew Joe used to get them there hiccups really bad. This one day I just couldn't stand how bad and pretty darn annoying they was, so I told him he needed to go out to the dog's den yonder out back till they were done with. While he was out there one of them ol' hounds just couldn't bear the sound neither. Ol' tiggs done a number on joe's neck, got to bitin' it somethin fierce! I tell you what though, since that there day, ain't heard a lick of them hiccups since. That's a dag-gone cure for ya'll, enjoy the day ya'll here!

Try runing backwards(making sure nuthing is in the way). yell "i am great" six times. jump from side to side 3 times. clap 4 times. whisper to yourself i hope this works 5 times. Try to do this in public, usually works best there!
#27 - GAGA - 01/18/2009 - 19:46
I know of a good cure for hiccups that was passed from my grandfather to my mother. For me this cure never fails. Get a full glass of water ready. Have someone stand behind you and hold your ears closed. At the same time hold your nose, take a breath and drink as much water as you can in one go. Then you can let go of your nose and ears. The hiccups should be gone. Hope this works for you. =o)
#28 - Rachel - 01/22/2009 - 13:42

#31 - Chewy - 02/04/2009 - 16:10
Take a glass of water and a teaspoon of sugar. Put the sugar in mouth first then drink water. My husband taught me that trick. And let me tell you that is the easiest thing to do. It really really works every time.
#32 - Tina - 03/14/2009 - 03:55
I was born with a bent diaphram so i deal with that hell often...I dont think anything works EVERYTIME but I swallow a spoon full of cayene pepper sauce. It seems to work often, strange though because spicy things are suppose to cause hiccups.
#33 - Kandy - 03/20/2009 - 15:00
take lemmon.it works
#34 - paul - 04/22/2009 - 11:28
hiccups are caused by a nerve that monitors oxygen levels, if it gets too low, one of the bodies responses is to make you take breaths. to stop this, simply rest and take long, deep breaths. and to completely contradict myself, hold your breath for 40 seconds. this works for me, always has
#35 - dizzle - 05/20/2009 - 00:41
The peanut butter trick really works. Just take a tablesoon of peanut butter and put it your mouth all at once and suck on it slowly. Do not drink any water after.
